I am not an Audi guy but isn't it an RS4 rather then s4 that is in the same league as m3?

I said they don't make much sense for day to day driving, ESP in North America. Yet, you will see far more m cars here in Toronto during rush hour than you would in Munich!
That's more because gas is over $8 a gallon in Munich rather than them otherwise not being practical. I did European delivery on my M3 and can say I saw very few V8 engined cars anywhere.

The 135i....well, if you haven't driven it, then you wouldn't understand. It's a friggin go kart.
The 135 and 335 are built on the same chassis and are very close in weight. The 135 just has a slightly shrink-wrapped body. I've driven it, the 335is and a couple of M3s. The only big difference I saw was in the M3.

The 335 is more practical because of X drive.
I think that the only additional practicality is in a snow belt in winter. The 335xi is heavier than, rides 1" higher than and understeers more than a non-xdrive 335. For Toronto I see it as too much of a compromise.
