Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
This place has become a "white elephant", its been empty for years now, they use it for overflow airport weekly/monthly parking.
Didn't it close due to problems with the Union?

closed due to contract dispute between Hong Kong owners and buyers, or vice versa. Police use it for training, some areas inside are mini battlefields with ripped doors, bullet holes.

I was curious about this a few months ago, so I did some research. It was sold by the far-East owners a year or so ago, to a company that specializes in buying run-down, discounted hotels and renovating them. That was their plan, but it seems to be going pretty slowly.

Steve Stavro had his office on the top floor until his death. His estate is now negotiating the sale of the building and completion of a planned developement with an Arazona hotel developer. There is a hold on construction until things are cleared up with the estate. There is no Hong Kong involvement. In the meantime its being used as a reacuring location fow a few M.O.W.s features and commercials. But film is slow in T.O. now thanks to the strike so it just sits.

In the early 80s our family would gather at a different airport strip hotel for Sunday Brunch every 2 weeks or so...... The Holiday Inn and Bristol Place were fav's but I always liked the Constellation...as a kid it was a great hotel to "check out"

I read an article in the Toronto Star a couple of years ago about why the Constellation Hotel closed down half the hotel.
The Pearson Airport needed to purchase the airspace above half the hotel for some weird legal reason so they made the hotel an offer they couldn't refuse to purchase half the hotel and close it down. And that's what happened.

The GTAA Leased the top of the hotel to install electronic equipment to assist in aircraft control. In the end they switched to another system and the hotel was never used for that exept for some lights. Stavro was trying to use his influence to develope a Casino in that location but that never happened. It will be re-developed when all the legal crap is smoothed out from the estate. There is alot of money in that place waiting...

I believe you are referring to the Novotel near the Landing Strip, it was closed for a few years while they removed a few of the top floors. It has since re-opened.
