I just cracked open some of my old comic book boxes cause I needed something to read... this was the first time in about 7 years that I opened the boxes... I got em wrapped up in the plastic bags... and it felt as if there was some kinda feint slippery film on the out side of the bags.... Like some kinda moisture got on em... but they're dry and cool in my basement.

Are they deteriorating? The comics are still in good condition. But are the old comics books (before the shiny paper they use now) gonna turn yellow regardless of how good they're stored? It'd be a bitch if I had to unwrap every farking one of them and toss out the plastic.

How old are the comic bags?
I remember way back, that some collectors were changing their bags for newer ones. It turns out that some of the bags were decaying and fucking up the bags (pretty much like you said).
You may have to change the comic book bags for the newer kind of bags.
They have a new type of comic book bag that will last forever, so you may want to use those for your older and more valuable comics.

Going to the comic store today, will ask the store owner if he knows anything about your problem.

Hope that helps Ross.

Spidey creator sticks it to Marvel

BY ROBERT GEARTY and TRACY CONNOR
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITERS

Ka-Pow? Try ka-ching!
Spider-Man creator Stan Lee has won a major victory in a lawsuit against Marvel Comics after a judge ruled he's entitled to 10% of the profits from movies and toys based on the superheroes he created.

It's a windfall that could turn a goblin green with envy.

Since the company raked in $50 million from the first Spider-Man movie and sold more than $100 million worth of web-slinger products in 2002 alone, Lee, 82, is in for a huge payday.

The decision by Manhattan Federal Judge Robert Sweet also applies to films and TV shows about other characters Lee dreamed up, including the Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

"I'm very gratified by the judge's decision although, since I'm so deeply fond of Marvel and the people there, I sincerely regret that the situation had to come to this," Lee said.

His lawyer Howard Graff noted that Lee had been working for Marvel since he was a teenager and created its best-known characters. "He believes the company reflects his life-long work and effort," Graff said.

Lee sued Marvel in 2002, claiming the company had breached his 1998 contract to act as a spokesman for the comic book giant and was cheating him of millions from its Hollywood ventures.

The judge agreed that Marvel must fork over a tenth of any profit it makes from movies, TV shows or products made by its toy division.

Marvel said it intends to appeal, but it's already taking a beating in the court of public opinion.

At Forbidden Planet near Union Square, customers said Manhattan-based Marvel should show Lee more respect - and more money.

"There wouldn't be a Spider-Man without Stan Lee," said Rodney Ramos, 39, a comic book artist from the East Village. "Imagine Microsoft without Bill Gates."

Yes. The ordinary polyethylene and polypropylene varieties of comic bags will turn yellow over the years. The comics themselves will continue to be fine though.

If you want archival quality bags that are completely inert and will stay crystal clear for at least a thousand years, get mylites made by L.B. Cole or Gerber. Pendragon on Lakeshore Boulevard and Yesterday's Heroes on Bathurst are among the stores that stock mylites.

Good for Stan Lee!!!

As for the comic bags....
I think every comic store will have those bags in stock; you just got to ask for them.

Can't say I'm too anxious about Constatine but the new Batman movie looks somewhat promising... :)

One step ahead
I was kind of on the fence as to whether I was going to catch the Constantine movie, but a friend of mine scored some passes for an advance screening, so I'm heading downtown on Thursday night to check it out. I can't help but worry, though, after seeing the trailer, that, once again, Hollywood's missed the point...
I think I can grudgingly accept the filmmakers moving the action from London to L.A., though a key element of John Constantine's character has always been that he is unabashedly and unapologetically British. I question, however, the casting of Keanu Reeves, who turns Constantine from a ballsy smartass who's pantsed the Devil and once pissed on the Phantom Stranger's shoes, into...well, Keanu Reeves. Laconic, morose, monotone; sure, Constantine's damned, but when he shows up at the gates of hell, it's going to be with a cigarette dangling from his lips and a plan to be running the place in under a week. At least, that's the way it should be...
It's clear, too, judging from the trailer, that the innately European psychological horror of the comic book has been replaced with the more FX-heavy, blood n' guts, uniquely American version of the genre. More's the pity...
Wait...is my elitist snobbery showing again? Damn. It's a fanboy's worst failing to nitpick such things to death based on nothing more than a few quick clips. I'll save my review for after the movie. And as for the rest of you: read Hellblazer!

P.S. Have to agree that the Batman film looks promising, though I'm a little disappointed with some of...the...changes...(must control fanboy instincts)...
I just saw a trailer for the FF film; looks good. And if it weren't for the solemn vow I took to never waste two hours of my life watching a Marvel Comic movie - a vow I made after seeing Daredevil - I'd be right there opening day...

Having only seen the trailer, I can only speculate as to the extent of the changes. I’ve seen clear shots of the suit and the batmobile; neither is entirely faithful, but neither is unrecognizable. The alterations are the sorts of things one would expect in any adaptation from comics to a live-action movie, and, thankfully, are pretty cool in their own right.
It looks as if they’ve tweaked the Dark Knight’s origin a bit. Most people know that Bruce Wayne’s parents were murdered in front of him when he was a boy, which drove him to become Batman as an adult. What most people don’t know is that he spent the intervening years travelling the world, developing, among other skills, his martial arts ability in the Far East, and his powers of deductive reasoning in Europe under the tutelage of master detective Henri Ducard.
I can’t be positive about this, but it looks like they’ve combined his martial arts and detective training, making Henri Ducard (played by Liam Neeson) more of an all-in-one guru/sensei (not unlike a Jedi Master). Again, I’ve only seen the trailer; I might be proven wrong opening day. Still, even if this is the case, the mere inclusion of characters like Ducard and Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), little-known players in the Batman mythos, and the use of Ra’s Al Ghul and Scarecrow (Ken Watanabe and Cilian Murphy) as the villians, shows that attention has been paid to the more obscure elements of the Bat-universe. God is in the details; let’s hope it makes for a compelling, if not 100% accurate adaptation. And speaking of Ra’s Al Ghul…
If they were determined to tack on a love interest, why not make it Talia? One of the things—one of the many things—that has dragged previous Batman movies down, is the insistence that there be a love story. Now, with Ra’s Al Ghul as the villain, that sort of thing is actually germane to the plot, and yet they still manage to drop the ball by making Katie Holmes’ character a ‘childhood friend’ of Bruce Wayne’s. What were they thinking…?
Ah, well…I’m going to reserve final judgement on the Batman flick until opening day; I doubt I’m going to learn anything about it between now and then that’ll convince me not to see it.
As for the Fantastic Four movie, and how seeing it would conflict with my oath…
Since I saw Daredevil, I’ve remained true to my promise to never waste two hours of my life on another Marvel movie, passing up chances to see Spider-Man 2, X2, and the Hulk. I’m not just talking in the theatres, either; I’ve passed these movies by on satellite, too. My friends have tried to convince me to bend a bit, and, unless it completely sucks, will continue to do so in order to drag me to see the FF. Still, I’m determined to stay strong; I just have to remind myself that the time I waste on a crappy Marvel movie is time that could be spent getting lap dances from nubile Eastern European women…

Have you read Good Omens yet, pixiegyrrl? If not, I highly recommend it. It was written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, and is one of the funniest books about the apocalypse ever! I've been jonesing to re-read it for a couple of weeks now; perhaps I should just succumb to temptation...
If you've already read the prose version of Stardust, might I also recommend checking out the four-issue limited series that it was based on? Beautifully illustrated by Charles Vess, it has, I believe, been collected into a trade paperback. I haven't read the novel yet, so I don't know if the two versions differ, but I can tell you that if you've read Gaiman's story without experiencing Vess' art, then you're denying yourself a true sensory delight.
I hope you enjoy Seasons Of Mist, pixiegyrrl. It's one of my favourite Sandman arcs, and I'm sure by the end, it will be one of yours as well...

Justice League & Extreme

Saw this on YTV last few weekends, in hope of recapturing the old feel but so sad, the characters in Justice League Extreme are so far-out that they are stupid. For the other super-friends in the show, it just didn't have the tone and comic look of the past. Too bad.

X-men is one of the few half decent super-hero cartoons on air. Some of the new style drawing is terrible. I still prefer the old musclur round buffed look for characters.
