In that video he says:

"Here's what we can do right now to change this world to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year, and instead spend it feeding, clothing, and educating the poor of the world which it would many times over not one human being excluded . . ."

Uhhhh, false and false. Stuff that sounds good to the untrained ear but is completely untrue.

Really? The US defense budget alone is over 500billion?

The world total is 1.5 trillion.

If that isn't enough to solve the world's hunger problems, I don't know what is.

For the record, I am not saying it's doable. Obviously it's pie in the sky stuff with all the political entanglements that goes along with it. But from a purely numbers perspective, I would think surely that is more than enough needed to address the issues quoted.

1.5 trillion is three times more than 500 billion. From a purely numbers perspective, the idea that the US defense budget could feed the world is 'pie in the sky' stuff.

Secondly, prosperity is created. It cannot be simply given away freely forever without consequences. In other words, the well would run dry quickly.

Thirdly, it would be suicide to cut out spending on US defense and weapons. The world would not be a better place without spending on weapons and security.

For what it's worth the US government spends billions on aid each year. US citizens spend even more billions in charity (Americans donate more than the US government does; American citizens are the most generous people per capita on Earth as far as charity is concerned). I don't see global hunger dwindling, do you? Why? Because if you feed a starving person so that they can subsist and have several children, now you have more mouths to feed. You're not only back to square one, you're now worse off. The more money spent this way, the bigger the global hunger crisis becomes. Cold hard reality.

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day... teach him to fish, you feed him for life.

It would not take $1.5 trillion/year to end poverty that kills. There was a great Bill Nighy movie a couple of years ago, where he plays a British bureaucrat going to a G8 summit, and brings along a girl he just met. Anyway, she convinces him to make a stand to end poverty that kills.

Wait, just found the movie, The Girl in the Cafe:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443518/

It won't solve every problem, but it would dramatically reduce the deaths caused by hunger. And our governments can do it, they just don't have the political will to do it.
