I just went through this for the first time. I was unable to drink that gallon of PegLyte as expected. The first couple of glasses were fine, the next couple were a challenge, and glasses #5 and up were hellish. So nauseating I was close to vomiting after every sip or gulp. I used a straw to get the stuff past my tongue, but it hardly helped. Somehow I got down the first 8 glasses the night before, but the next morning I gave up after 2 more glasses (instead of the called for 8 glasses). I literally could not drink any more without wretching.

But my bowels were emptied after glass #4.

Turns out the physician didn't mind at all that I had not finished the vile potion, and said afterwards that my colon was plenty clear for her to view. I will try any other product than PegLyte next time. Not everyone has trouble with it, but if you go online, you will find that many of us do. It was MUCH worse than either the trips to the toilet or the actual colonoscopy. (The fasting for a day and a half for some reason was a breeze for me.)

A little advice:

Pre-mix the gross solution they make you drink, and put it in the fridge for at least 12 hours before you have to drink it, so it is as cold as possible. Then when you do drink it try to "chug" it so it misses the taste buds on your tongue and just goes down your throat.

I also recommend getting some "baby" wet wipes for wiping your butt hole cuz it tends to get irritated after so much pooping and wiping.

I concur w both of these tips. By the end I snuck in a few sips of sprite zero (gotta be a clear liquid) just to manage the nauseous taste. Nothing quite like literally peeing out your bum by the end. But wet wipes most important piece of advice. TP feels like sandpaper by the end.

Wow I never had to drink a gallon of anything, just a packet of powder in a glass of water (twice). The fasting part was easily the worst part of the experience though for sure! Word to the wise - beer qualifies as a clear liquid (the right type anyway)! I woke up part way through mine and I could see on the monitor that everything was clean... what a weird experience.

Very weird! Add the fact that the nurses were easy on the eyes. I was at the ending part of the procedure when I woke up and never felt pain, only passing air. 2 packets on cold water as well. The fasting as most people say is the hardest part. But if you want this done without trouble...I think it's the best motivation. wet wipes and some vaseline goes a long way to prevent your ass from burning.

I had more of a horror story late last year into 2018. Prep was easy. In the exam they found a flat polyp on the cecal value. It doesn't hang down like most polyps so it can not be just snipped. They can only take a surface tissue scarping to test for cancer not where its attached to the colon. So to be sure they took out the ascending colon. The theory is if it is cancer it could spread to the lympth tissue etc and going in a 2nd time after scar tissue forms is more difficult than just removing the asending colon (which we really don't need).

That operation went well 3 tiny incisions -laparoscopic. It was the first time I'd been in a hospital since a kid (been very healthy in my old age).

The worst part was the incision in my belly button didn't heal properly. About 3 months later had to reopen it and leave an open incision instead of closing with sutures etc. You have to stuff packing material in the "hole" every day which is almost impossible to do yourself in a mirror since can't easy see it youself. I had a nurse come to home until it finially healed properly. Fortunately the nurse was all paid for my insurance. This done as same day outpatient surgery vs about 3 daysin the hospital, when had part of colon removed.

Once that healed all back to normal, do not notice any changes with the ascending colon taken out.

Oh yes the other worst part - they don't release you from recovery until you can pee. I had no problem after the first operation but when they redid the incision my bladder didn't wake up for about 3 hours in recovery. I was feeling fine. They put a lot of fluids in you for the surgery (not sure why). They did a scan of bladder and confirmed it was full so had to get pee out or risk of bursting. Had to put a foley in which was EXREMELY painful (probably enlarged prostate but never had any symptoms). Had to wear a bag for about 3 days when removed at Dr's and all was well. I was never so glad to pee normailly and have it working!

Having never had any surgery or even been in a hospital since a kid, reminds us to feel more for those with more serious issues.

A few months ago I was fully recovered and now planning a trip to FKK clubs etc in Frankfort - take advantage of when healhty!

I was going to get this done and changed my mind. I decided it was not really worth the risk. Firstly, they only tend to track deaths that occur but not the debilitating and life changing injuries caused by this procedure. Secondly some people claim removing the "precancrous polyps" can cause mestastasis. A friend of mine had these done and died at a verry young 63 with a very rare cancer in that area of the body... related? who knows. I will do the FOBT test but I will stay away from this as I think it feeds on our paranoia and fear. Kinda like the whole prostate scam. The truth is, I dunno, but the medical industry cannot be trusted fully. So I will take my chances. If I have a + FOBT test, then I suppose I will have a dilimma on my hands or up my ass.

I'm due to have another colonoscopy sometime next month. Due to personal history, I need to get it done every year. Right now it is not to see if I have colon cancer but to see if it is getting any better. Doctor says I will prpbably be going for chemo for the rest of my life but there is a chance.

That's tough Bro, hope things get better.
