If true this would be a great breakthrough. Combined with the vaccines, this would definitely be a game-changer.

Been taking it from time to time due to gouts. It is old and effective drugs and it is used in number of autoimmune disorder such as Familial Mediterranean Fever and others.

A good friend of mine's Dr. has her on colchicine before she is to take the vaccine.

One 0.6 tablet a day for 7 days prior to getting her shot.

The doctor seems to think it will mitigate some of the side effects and aid in the delivery efficacy.

Curious, I'm not sure why it would do either. I'd be interested to hear her reasoning.

Me too. My friend is from India and about 80 so talking to her over the phone it was hard to nail down exactly what she remembered her doctor said.

But as this thing progresses there's going to be all kind of innovative ideas being tried. Some will work and some won't.

People don't report on therapies as much as I'd like.
The monoclonal antibodies seem to have had good results in some cases.
The antivirals all seem to be "kinda ok if used early" but nothing sticks out.
I'm glad there was a full court press on vaccines but some more energy into therapies would have been nice.

Tell you a story. I have a friend who is gay. He's about 55 right now and grew up in Montreal.

So was right in the centre of the AIDS problem in a big metropolis. A great deal of his friends didn't make it.

With respect to these vaccines he's holding off he says. When I asked why he said because he remembers when the first treatments for AIDS were rushed out and the devastating side effects the desperate individuals had to endure. He's afraid of the potential same thing happening here. Now to his credit you've never seen a more cautious guy. He's always double masked with a spit shield and gloves. Lives on his own and never entertains and seldom goes out. And he's a fit guy with no comorbidities.

My point is the real and safest treatment has yet to be determined. It's probably a few years off. I hope I'm wrong here. I really do....

They were going to concentrate on treatments focused for severe cases already on ventilators first or people headed that way.
Those are almost certainly going to be nasty.
The problem is going to be getting enough data for meaningful results.

The vaccines are much less of an issue because they aren't treatments.

It also helps that in all cases here we are talking acute, not chronic issues.
Now, if it turns out "long COVID" is an even bigger deal than we fear, and needs to be "managed" - we are going to see a lot of worrisome treatments.
