Is this you? Do you run out of breath climbing stairs?
I'm surprised the article doesn't mention COPD (lung issues) as well, particularly as one gets older. It sucks, as in it will have you sucking wind. Don't smoke, kids.

At my office in the winter when too mucky to walk outside.

From 6 to 11, down to 5, walk that level with lots of public hallways to cool down, then down to basement.
Loop around basement parking garage, back up to 6.
Circle level 6 a few times to cool down.
Back at my desk with up and down 266 steps in about 14 minutes.

It could go faster, but I don't want to have to shower at the end of lunch break.

We have a fire drill every now and then. The problem is that one of our colleagues has a bum leg and he has a lot problem going down stairs which block the people behind him. Hopefully we will never have a real fire or a 9/11.

Another thing they don't mention is if the bone in your back is dislocated, this will cause shortness of breath.
I happen to have this.

Also if you have significant anemia and your hemoglobin is too low you may become short of breath during intense physical activities. Including stair climbing and fucking... :(

Don't know if it is still true, but I read some time back that for lung capacity you have do cardio longer than 20 minutes. The article was dispelling the idea that exercise is of no use unless you do it for extended periods. They said any exercise is better than none, but again for lung capacity go beyond 20 minutes.

Not disagreeing, but some forms of COPD like emphysema are less about lung capacity (air volume) and more about efficiency (transfer of O2/CO2 to/from the blood). Exercise & activity (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) are always better than none, but the C in COPD is for Chronic. While recovery opportunities are limited, short of a lung transplant, there are treatments available to slow the decline. Just saying, without trying to make anyone paranoid, that if it’s a concern, see your family doctor first. You may get a referral to a pulmonologist or respirologist. You may also be asked to take some blood tests for such things as Alpha1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. My advice is to follow up. Such things don’t heal themselves and it’s better to catch them early before the damage is done. I’ve had to watch my father and sister go through it and I can assure anyone, it sucks.
