President Biden’s new “climate czar” John Kerry says laid off workers in the fossil fuels industry should be able to easily transfer their skill set into solar. He specifically said they can “make solar panels” instead of making the Keystone pipeline that Biden canceled on day two of his tenure in the White House.

“What President Biden wants to do is make sure those folks have better choices, that they have alternatives, that they can be the people to go to work to make the solar panels,” Kerry said.

But before anyone says that “they can make solar panels” is the new “learn to code”, just hold your fire for a bit.

These really can be union paid jobs, and this is a growth industry, unlike fossil fuels, which for now is the most hated industry in Congress and among the World Economic Forum jet set.

Solar jobs are manufacturing jobs that don’t require STEM degrees from Stanford and MIT, unlike computer science. I will never learn to code and make a blockchain platform or build the new hologram phone. I can barely get my laptop’s fan to stop spinning and making noise. But I bet I can learn to run the machines that make solar cells and modules.

However, the key word here is “make”. In fact, it is the only word that matters.

If Kerry wants laid off Keystone workers to “make” solar panels then the Administration that he works for will have to do something about protecting the American market from a flood of Chinese solar panels.

I am beginning to see why Biden's victory over Trump may turn
out to be bullish for oil. I can see there is going to be a serious
shortage of labors in drilling and fracking when cycle of drilling
activities enters the next boom phase. If that ends up driving oil
prices to insanely high level Big Oil and climate change believers
alike would be very happy.

Not necessarily. U.S. made solar panels would eventually
be as cheap as imports from China when their standards of
living became on par with each other's.

And when do you think this next boom phase will happen?
Why?

I was thinking when I saw that a couple of days ago- a man he knows nothing about construction, a sweet fuck all nothing about the energy sector and even less about technology and manufacturing is offering advice to the workers and industries. And then I realized that it is just a side effect of the disease called leftism. The Russians tried it and failed. The Chinese tried it and managed to starve millions. Everywhere this has failed and failed spectacularly. They're lucky that their voters are as stupid as they are.

Ah, talking about the good times in the old country again, jc?

Those right wingers really showed the world how to run oil industries properly, didn't they?
Every one really looks up to the fine job Alberta and the UK did, so much smarter than Norway with their commie oil fund.

I'm not going to even address your "point"- too stupid.

Neither Kerry nor Biden ever worked or was schooled in
engineering and science. Jimmy Carter's background in
science might have been a factor that enabled him to formulate
the right and sensible energy policy. Carter did not actually
expect renewable energy to replace more than a proportion
like 20--30% of fossil fuel over two decades even if his plans were
followed through. Now with two illiterates in science and technology
in charge of the nation's energy policy credulous voters will be
happy to go along with their money spending spree to convert
the entire energy infrastructure to renewable energy. I expect
economic collapse more likely than climate crisis to strike first
in the coming decade.

What part of history is a guide to prediction of the
outcomes of Biden's energy and climate policy?

Neither was a scientist or engineer but both are smart enough to know that they do not know the answers and will rely upon experts who do. Fortunately neither had an uncle who once taught engineering at MIT and therefore thinks he is imbued with the innate expertise and rely upon feelings or hunches.
