Thought about buying cigars online. The brand i want is not available in Canada plus there are some good deals on some websites. Worried about getting scammed, my stuff getting seized by customs or getting counterfeit stuff. Anybody done business with a reputable dealer online or any advice or done any purchasing for cigars thru the internet. Thanks for the help. Peace.

I don't know what advice to give you as I have never bought them on line, but if you do, I would strongly recommend purchasing them from a Canadian site. That is of course assuming that you are a canadian. From what I hear, taxes and duties can be a bitch. For me, part of the appeal is choosing from the humidor, where you get to see the colour, the leaf wrapping and such. Not to mention the knowledge of a good sales person. Might I recommend either Cigar Studio @ Bloor and Royal York, or Thomas Hinds Tobacconist in Yorkdale.

The "fine" folks at Canada Customs........

Will of course assess their normally very high import duties on any tobacco items coming into Canada from anywhere. After they get through with you they will pass the package off to the "great" folks at Revenue Canada who assess PST and GST to top it off.

On a high end box your landed costs can be quite high unfortunately.

In the USA might I suggest http://www.cigars-review.org/links.htm

In Canada http://smokincigar.com/

Best Regards

There is no customs per say,on cigars, free trade lmao. What there is if you do not have the paperwork right is a tobacco excise tax. This is a wopper.I know of an incident where a customs officer opened a box of cigars,50 of them, that was marked as a gift with a value of 100 dollars. When he opened it he found an invoice which said 300 US,busted! The total taxes he put on the box was close to 600 Canadian, including gst, pst, handling fee and the big one, excise tax.His comment was that there was probally 2500 dollars worth of cigars,so 600 more was still cheap. Now if the package had been done properly, and no invoice inside, then marginal charges would have been applied. But a lot of people will not ship to Canada without an invoice for fear of being investigated by their own IRS,esp the USA.
Gifts are under 20 dollars in value and still must say what it is,packaging is so important, get it right or pay,.

Somewhere, I was informed that it is illegal to send tobacco in the mails. So, you would have to have it couriered to your home/office, etc.

Just a suggestion

I go to Havana once a month as I have offices there. I usually bring back cigars for friends etc, as I do not smoke.

I buy them either at the Melia Habana or at the airport and they have the seal and hologram.

If interested PM me as to what type and price you would be willing to pay. Actually leaving this Sat, with the wife ( will slow me down a bit...lol) so I can bring back twice as much.
