The Church of Scientology is at war with the internet. Previously, any website that opposed them was bought up and shut down. It's lawyers are aggresive litigants that have effectively muzzled most forms of media dissent. But that seems to be changing and it derives from the Tom Cruise videos that they cannot fully suppress. Some have argued that the Church is nothing more than an almost foolproof pyramid scheme - and yet it has achieved charitable status as a religion in the USA.

The fight now centers on a Wikipedia clone website known as Anonymous. It's run by a group of activists and the site can be edited by anyone. The concern stems from their programs that treat drug addicts and hardened criminals. The aim of the programs is reformation, but critics see them as initiatives that create brainwashed cadres that carry out the church's harrassment measures against critics.

Most of what Scientology deems as religious content can be found in Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking" - except for the part about hostile aliens from an extinct civilisation. There is also the problem with their dogma that lists handicapped people and homosexuals as deformed souls. Also, as Tom Cruise's bouts with incoherency point outs, the effect of L. Ron Hubbards teachings on a person's mental health.

"Tom Cruise, Scientologist, a man who has affected the lives of over a billion people. And it's only just beginning...and, no, he does not need permission".

Religion or not, Scientology has a long way to go before it catches up with all the death and destruction that has been perpetrated in the name of Christianity!

Solution is simple.

Do not pay to see any movie he is in. His prestige will fail rapidly after that and he can practice his cult teachings unencumbered by the burdens of making movies for the non believers.

Quite simply, I'm pigheaded, I won't watch any of his movies anymore and haven't for years since he began this little campaign.

They reaaly do seem to suck in a disproportionate number of actors. I guess that should tell you something.

All churches are cults ! Opium for the masses I say. Personally, I prefer opium.

its hard to determine what qualifies as a "church" as said above. what qualifies as a true religion. i think that given the internet and techology today its hard to start any new religion. Would mormonism exist today if they cable tv and the internet back than to call them quacks? So David Koresh is a nut but send him back 300 years and he could be one of the biggest religions today? i guess its comes down to dessimination of information to the masses. imho of course. btw, i would consider myself agnostic.

It's worse than a cult, it's a business.
All organized religions are, IMHO.

While most churches expect you to donate, this one requires you to spend in order to "advance" within their framework, so I see your point though.

I had to help. Tom mentioned many times how he has to help. I helped $cientology by sending them all the posts written by Submissive Dave, and all the photographs I could find of transgenders. It is the least I could do.

Tom Cruise is the 3rd and final Anti-Christ!
Thank god because I just couldn't handle another anti-Christ! Well, maybe 2 or 3 more but anything more than 8 anti-Christs is just too much.

Is 'thank god' an appropriate use of language in this context?

Just read this today:

"Here's an easy way to figure out you're in a cult. If you're wondering whether or not you're in a cult, the answer is yes"
