It's mainland Chinese morals - they have none. What's the big deal? We're their biggest clients and supporters.

Between a rock and a hard place
This is no different than the Japanese Fugu Blowfish, also cooked and served alive. But the reason being that if the fish dies it secretes a venom that can instantly kill it's consumer. In fact Fugu is known to occasionally secrete the venom before death, and there is no way to tell except to consume and play gourmet's roulette.

The western society's industrialized slaughterhouses fare no better...

Poor animals.

Anyways, meat is good.

It is served raw, not alive. You pick it out of a tank. I ate it a few times. However, the Koreans eat Octopus alive. They wrap it on a stick, put a sauce on it and you bite it, ripping it apart.
This is why I transfer at ICN (Incheon, Souel, South Korea) and go forward to Hong Kong, when traveling from Narita, if I'm jacking off on Korean Air.

I've read that one of their philosophies in cooking is that the more pain it suffers the tastier it is. has anyone else heard that?
That is why they terroize dogs before killing them painfully. If you see it they poke and prod the animal in the cage because they "say" the adrenaline rush makes the meat more tender. I think it's fucked.

If animals are to be killed for food it should be done as humane as possible. Making a living , breathing thing suffer for your "enjoyment" is just plain fucked. No other way to put it. And what kind of an asshole wants to eat somethng while it's moving? Not even animals like doing that to each other. Unless of course you are this unlucky SOB:

It sounded like they were speaking Cantonese, so they are pieces of shit from Hong Kong or Markham.
Punter, what the f!ck are you talking about? Yes, they were speaking cantonese, but doesn't mean they are from HK or Markham?!?!?! Not all contonese speakers you think are peices of sh!t. These people in the video are probably from shenzhen or guandong china.

But i have to say thou, i wouldn't even think about eating fish that is prep this way. Just disgusting. All cooked, is the only way. Most of these fish in mainland china are raised in, sometimes, unclean environment.

Going off on a tangent, I believe it's a symptom of a fucked up society when we assign animals the same level of sympathy that we do our fellow humans. I hate to see animals suffer, especially needlessly, but animals do this shit to each other all the time. Look at how your cute domestic cat tortures mice and birds.

I have more respect for those who see a living animal and kill it for food than those pussies who are shielded from reality and get their meat from behind a counter.

I was generalizing! Why do you say that they are "probably from shenzhen or guandong"?

Wherever they are from, Chinese people displaying this kind of cruelty gives all Chinese a bad name, especially when it is intentionally broadcast on YouTube. WTF are they thinking? We will never live down the dog-eating comments, and now this.

One is doing it to survive, the other for entertainment.
Exactly... that was just so wrong on so many levels.

I totally agree with this. Being an avid hunter/diver and farmer (tee hee) I feel that we are so removed from where our food actually comes from. If everyone had to kill/grow their own food we would all be much more appreciative of it.
I try not to buy meat in the grocery stores. I hate the big commercial meat industry in general. Though in the past few years I have to say they have gotten a lot better about not wasting and such but I digress...
Whenever it is possible I hunt my own meat, grow my own veggies and cook all my own food. I believe there is nothing one can do to bring them back to reality faster or get you in touch with mother earth and what you put in your mouth than having to grow/hunt your own food. I can guarantee you once you have have had this experience you will be humbled in so many ways.

As you can see this is a topic I am passionate about. But to each their own. Who am I to judge?
