Synopsis
Tensions escalate between the US and China over trade. A potential 245% tariff looms. China's Foreign Ministry responds with a call for collaboration. They emphasize removing barriers, not erecting walls. The US insists China must negotiate. Discussions are underway with other nations. However, China is excluded due to its retaliatory stance. The future of trade relations remains uncertain.

Beijing has made its response, a rather ambiguous one, after a new tariff rate figure on China, as high as 245%, emerged from a White House fact sheet on Wednesday.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, as quoted by Global Times, said they should ask the US side for the "specific tax rate figures."

Speaking at press briefing on Wednesday, the Chinese official said that China has repeatedly stated its solemn position on the tariff issue. "The tariff war was initiated by the US. China has taken necessary countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests and international fairness and justice, which is completely reasonable and legal. Tariff and trade wars have no winner. China does not want to fight these wars but is not scared of them," Lin was quoted as saying by Global Times.

He conveyed China's commitment to collaboration and the elimination of trade barriers amidst growing global uncertainties. "In a world full of uncertainties, China remains committed to joining hands, not throwing punches; removing barriers, not erecting walls; promoting connectivity, not pursuing decoupling," he said in a post on X.

"This tariff war was initiated by the U.S. side... China does not want a fight, but it is not afraid of one either," Jian had told a regular press conference.

Prior to the latest development, a 145% tariff was imposed on Chinese exports.

This escalation followed actions by US President Donald Trump, who recently enacted reciprocal tariffs on numerous countries, citing a trade deficit as the reason.

However, Trump has temporarily paused these tariffs for 90 days as discussions for new trade agreements are underway with over 75 countries, although China remains excluded from this pause due to its retaliatory stance.

During a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated Trump's firm position on China, asserting that the responsibility lies with China to negotiate a deal. She said, "The ball is in China's court. China needs to make a deal with us. We don't have to make a deal with them."

Leavitt stressed that the US is open to negotiations, but it is essential for China to engage constructively.

Time for the entire world (American citizens included) to dump their
dollars like it is green toilet paper and exchange it for gold, silver and/or
other currencies.

See the news regarding Ghana. I think they think like you.

It is actually crazy that Xi's presidential plane is a Boeing 747. He won't fly on a Chinese made airplane lol
China's manufacturing industry complex has its limitations.I don't think
China can build, for instance, an aircraft carrier entirely from scratch.

So Xi decided that Boeing is a better company for design and manufacturing
of airplanes than its counterparts in China. Is there anything wrong with that?

ROTFLMAO, when The Whitehouse are either confused or totally incompetent as to these 245% tariffs.
They are stating that there were already 100% tariffs in place on goods like the EVs from China, and these 145% are going to be in addition to it.
But some of the Whitehouse staff are implying that it is an additional 245% tariffs. Which is it?

I bet he's hearing from a bunch of them, from auto, to tech, to planes....Planes, trains and automobiles, now if one would just run over someone, all would be good. LMAO
Pretty sick to advocate for attempted murder. Jeez.

Meanwhile in China, revenge against society attacks have not slowed down at all. A lot of civil unrest.

On the afternoon of April 16, in Sanya, Hainan, a van rammed pedestrians and vehicles along Jinjiling Street. The video showed that the scene was in a mess. Some adults and children fell to the ground. The person who filmed it said, "It rammed all the way from here, and it also rammed seven or eight people here." Another person who filmed it said, "Many people were crushed to death." According to local residents, the incident happened during the school dismissal period.

Sure is. Proves he has no confidence in the safety and reliability of the planes he wants his citizens to trust their lives to.

Will be fun to see how their 6th (or is it now 7th or 8 gen @nottyboi ?) that China has flown a tofu full scale model of! 😜

I dunno, a train or plane isn't really attempted murder, a car, yeah, maybe if the victim knows how to jump and roll effectively.

I used to love practicing the avoid jump and roll technique as a kid playing with the lads. We would use dirt bikes and the occasional ATV as well as an old car, to play stuntmen. The good old days but fuck, the bruises would hurt for a few days.

The US is going that way now too.

Wait until all the good ole boy Bubba's see the price of all the cheap Chinesium tools and other man toys and machines at Harbour Freight (USA's version of Princess Auto) skyrocket to double price on the basis of the CHY-nah tariffs Trump put on their toys. About as abject of proof that THEY, Bubba's, are paying double for a tool, not Chyna.... and that ALL the extra money is going to go to give the rich billionaires like the owner of Harbour Freight, Eric Smidt who had the 385' yacht "Infinity" built for him. We're talking a bigtime Russian oligarch sized yacht.

Somehow I doubt he's going to eat the tariffs or deny another Trump billionaire tax cut.

I would imagine Trump will be hearing from the CEO of Boeing if this is true.

Never mind Boeing... whaddabout all the poor folks who basically live day to day from Dollar stores who source much of their products from China.

Trump has backed himself into a corner with his decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods to an astonishing 245%. American industries and consumers were already struggling under the weight of the previous 125% rate. With prices rising so dramatically, purchases will increasingly be made only out of necessity. Doubling the tariff has done little beyond inflating costs, conditions haven’t changed, Only the burden on Americans has grown.
As households are forced to tighten their belts, backlash is inevitable. The blame won’t fall on Beijing, it will fall squarely on Trump. When Congress eventually reclaims its authority over tariffs, Americans will be reminded of how affordable imports once improved their standard of living.
Meanwhile, China’s retaliatory 125% tariff on American goods will further reduce U.S. exports, pushing China to source products from other countries. The original 125% tariff had already crippled trade between the two nations; increasing it to 245% served no practical purpose. This could end up being one of Trump’s most damaging missteps.

And if he goes even further, raising tariffs yet again, it won’t just be his competence that’s questioned, it may be his sanity.

Its kinda ironic that tent city real estate will be the fastest appreciating real estate asset in the USA 🤣
I think it's sad. Not funny.

But Russians are like that. They get more joy out of seeing their neighbours suffer than helping make things better for themselves, never mind for others.

When we look at homeless people living in tents and in boxes, we automatically assume these people somehow deserve their situation. And many of them do, having made specific decisions to ignore the rules of their home, work, society and laws that resulted in them being ostracized. And there are also the mental health and long time drug addicts.

But I've known actual friends of friends who have lost their apartment or job through no fault of their own and had to buy a van in one case, and anaother cheap, stinky mini RV to live in. Right down near Cherry Beach. I also know a guy who used to be a fairly big shot in a specialty insurance industry who developed a major neurodegenerative disease. One of the nicest, hardest working honest and smart guys I have had the pleasure of having in my life. Both biz and personal. Anyways, he tried to stay on working but eventually had to go onto long term disability at the insistence of his employer as his speech and appearance were distracting. His mind was fine. At some point he innocently tried to make some (taxable) side income writing magazine articles. Disability insc discovered this and cut. him off. Took a few years for him to burn through his savings and retirement funds. Last I heard he can''t really speak well and has no money. I've tried to call and otherwise contact him for a year and nothing.

You never know when any of us or our friends might end up homeless.
