You can blame Russia for that. Their greatest strength and accomplishment has been actively sowing fear, uncertainty and doubt. It weakens the world, thereby inceasing Russia's strength and influence. Both real and imagined.
[/QUO

Russia is not the one sowing fear, is western media and western govts that are sowing the fear. If they believed it they would have started massive mobilization 2 years ago.

I completely disagree. Presume there is a nefarious reason that a dictatorship is concealing information. That is most likely to keep eyes off the Wuhan Lab.
And you have two problems right there.

1) You don't need to presume a nefarious reason that a dictatorship is concealing information - dictatorships do that as a matter of course due to the brittle nature of their power.
2) You immediately went to "that is most likely to keep eyes off the Wuhan Lab" but that isn't anything but a strong hunch. After all, it failed completely to keep eyes off the lab. There is also the whole "keep eyes off the market" reason. Then there is the "they succeeded and we don't know what they tried to keep our eyes off of".

I get that you strongly believe that COVID came from the WIV.
But Shaq is right that in terms of actual evidence, it's pretty thin.

Making trade deals with China will put pressure on Trump.
How? North America is in many ways has a glut of commodities.

As I said before, Canada has always been free to ship commodities (energy, grains, etc.) to China. This is really the only imports China wants. The challenge is there are many commodity producers around the world. Some have more proximity to China.

I'm not trying to support targeting Canada. Not even sure given the blanket tariffs that was really the case. However, the Canadian industrial base probably depends on a symbiotic relationship with the U.S. For instance, are Japanese and European auto manufacturers interested in operating in Eastern Canada without access to the U.S. market?

Kind of like the initial days at Chernobyl? ;)

I believe one of your thoughts was no matter the cause the Chinese did not want any eyes on the Wuhan Lab. So I think my statement is fair. It just goes hand in hand with secretive states.

I get that you strongly believe that COVID came from the WIV.
No, I strongly believe we were misled by the rush to blame the wet market. There's a subtle, but important distinction.

And countless other things they suppressed.

I believe one of your thoughts was no matter the cause the Chinese did not want any eyes on the Wuhan Lab.
I don't think I've ever said that.
They don't want anyone investigating anything government, I would think, but I don't think I've focused on the lab as more important than anywhere else.

So I think my statement is fair. It just goes hand in hand with secretive states.
Not entirely fair, since you're giving it primacy.

No, I strongly believe we were misled by the rush to blame the wet market. There's a subtle, but important distinction.
And yet the wet market remains the most likely explanation, so it isn't as if there was a "mislead" there.
And, of course, the Chinese Government did its best to hide and deny the wet market connection, since they were supposed to have banned wild animal sales.
And, of course, the Chinese Government did its best to hide, downplay, and deny the original SARS outbreak in 2002 as well.

Ah, the internet expert argument.

I was just waiting for you to claim "significant business experience".
I knew it was coming.
I just want to point out that mandrill always cites his legal expertise when opining on legal matters. He has probably noted his experience several dozen times on many legal matters. I'm fairly certain you have seen him cite his legal expertise and probably because you were in concurrence you simply moved on.

That just means you dont have a response and you dont know enough.
Maybe I do, maybe I don't know. It's all a matter of opinion. Almost everything I and others here noted about doing business with China has been documented extensively. I'd rather not always bombard the forum with articles.

I have had a few members challenge my knowledge on a topic. Usually it pertains to economics and business where they have dissenting views. If members seem interested in different information, I post some varying sources. That's why I posted the Wiki on Triffin's Dilemma here. Most members are going to believe their favored opinion commentator. They're not interested in economics or economic data beyond the political aspects.

PS:
I will absolutely acknowledge and take back whatever I have said here, if you are willing to post your real identity, linkedin profile, resume and whatever else I may request to this thread so I can verify your credentials and determine that you are actually qualified to speak on this subject of international trade.
You have to be very, very careful that asking for our real identities in any demeanor, manner or circumstances will be considered egregious trolling. Some of us joke and make pointed sarcasm around our on-line personas, but never have I seen anyone make your call for real identities here.

Let's just say Westerners have to be careful not to legitimize bad behavior by the CCP inadvertently.

I did not ask you to post your real identity.
I said if you are willing to post such information, it would be possible to verify your credentials and qualifications on the subject of international trade.
I know very well you are not in a position to do so, and I wouldn't recommend anyone do it either.
And given you are not in a position to provide such information, let us refrain from trying to put people down or shut down conversation, citing unverifiable expertise.
That is considered egregious trolling that you'd need to be very, very careful of.

You should have more sense not to bring up the topic of revealing identities to back-up or prove our points in any manner whatsover. Can I be any more clear for you?

Should we take your faux-quest to the moderator? It's a form of trolling. I was being polite as possible about your challenge, but all you had to do was just move on.

That wasn't trolling, that was making a point that nobody gets instead cred for whatever experience or job they claim to do here, as we are all equally anonymous.

Maybe before making a play for Canada, Xi needs to calm down some upheaval in his backyard.

In the early morning of April 15, a banner was hung on an elevated bridge in Chengdu, Sichuan, reading
"Without political system reform, there will be no national rejuvenation."
“The people do not need a political party with unchecked power”
"China does not need anyone to point out the direction. Democracy is the direction."

Unfortunately, the last person to hang banners with political statements like this hasn't been heard from since - look up "bannerman" and "white paper protests"

No one challenges the authority of the CCP within China and Hong Kong.

Sure, but that has nothing to do with the lab leak hypothesis and the many twists and turns it has taken.

It was very apparent you were firmly arguing here in 2020 that the wet market was where the virus jumped to humans.
You have definitely been trying to dismiss the idea and anyone who presents the idea that it was a lab leak ever since.

Either we all don't know or you know for sure that it was the wet market. I'm pretty sure it can't be both.
