If they are ordered to by the court, yes.

I don't have kids, but I would say child expenses should be split 50/50 regardless of custody.

They are means tested, custody has nothing to do with it.

Courts don't really care about the adults in family cour, kids are the priority.

I thought it was an 'automatic' thing as per the tables? Mom's salary based on two kids +/- Dad's salary based on two kids. Each pays the other which really results in the man typically paying the woman the difference. Sometimes one of the parents has to foot the bill for extracurricular stuff.

50/50 custody means absolutely nothing - especially when the kids are young as the Mom typically gets "Custody". I think it is 12 or 13 when a kid can "vote with their feet" as to who they want to stay with.

Alimony is another fight.

(PS - If I'm wrong on the above in regards to the difference being paid, then that is fucking scary as Hell for the higher income earner)

If custody is 50/50 (meaning the child spends equal time with each parent) then child support is not required. But all expenses should be shared equally, including misc. types. But if the child spends more time with one parent, then that parent, would get child support. Misc. expenses would be still be split, in addition to child support. Shared custody must also have equal time, raising the child alone, to abort child support.

Wage earnings pre-split come Into play here.

There may be a spousal support issue in play here as well.

100 % wrong!!!! Joint custody is a decision making mechanism re: schools, life support etc., child support is always there, born by the higher income earner. fact: custody does not equal access

Here is another wrinkle... What happens when one of the partners is a business/sole proprietor and makes it seem they make very little money due to write offs?

Read the words in brackets ! "The child spends equal time with each parent." Therefore both parents are supplying what the court requires for child support. Child support is paid to whoever has the child on a more full time basis. It is based on the persons income, who has to pay. That also could be the lower income earner, who is paying. Differences in income, are applied to misc. expenses of the child, not covered by child support. By a percentage basis of the incomes. You can have shared custody, joint custody, or no custody assigned, in an agreement. Divorce can also be granted without an agreement. But a judge would expect to see one soon after granting it, if a child is involved.
True 50/50 custody is rare, and if it does not apply to the original question, then that person should seek legal aid, as they may owe back child support.

From the Ontario Government

The amount of child support to be paid in Ontario is set out under the Child Support Guidelines. Under the Guidelines, child support payments are based on the income of the person who does not have custody or the person with whom the children do not usually live and the number of children that need support.

Joint Custody: Parents who have joint custody of their children share the right to make important decisions about their care. The children may spend half the time with one parent and half the time with the other or they may spend more time living with one parent than with the other. Both parents remain involved in making decisions about the children. For joint custody to work, parents have to be able to communicate with each other and to co-operate even though they are not living together.
