For you CFL fans out there WHO do you think will win their semi final and end up in the Conference Finals?

WHO in the Grey Cup?

I will be shocked if Montreal doesn't win the Grey Cup. They will be at least a 12 point favourite in the Eastern Final, no matter who they play.

I might be biased but I think HAMILTON might be a dark horse to win it all.

The problem is Montreal has been the favourite so many previous times with Calvillo at quarterback and yet they've only won once.
In recent years Montreal has had the advantage/curse of playing in the weaker conference.

It's an advantage in that they get to the big game more often, but a curse in that they don't get tested as often against top teams. Last year the East went a dismal 6-26 against the West (7-28 if you count the playoffs). And Montreal only went 3-5 vs the West. Montreal's previous Grey Cup appearance, 2006, was similar in that the Als were only 2-6 vs the West.

This year may be different; the Als are 6-2 vs the West, losing only to Edmonton and BC on the road. But it will still be a challenge.

(a) the Als are dismal against the Lions in the last 10 years and could give Montreal fits in the East final (if they get past Hamilton); but first the Lions will need to find a healthy QB and find a way to stop the run. BC is 0-2 vs the Ticats this year.

(b) Trestman rested some of the Als starters in the last "game" vs Toronto. With the bye into the finals, Calvillo may be rusty after 3 weeks off (and the prior week vs Winnipeg, Calvillo sat due to his calf injury). I applaud Trestman's decision to rest the star, in contrast to Don Matthew's habit of over-using Calvillo, but too much rest is no good either.

(c) with the Grey Cup in Calgary, the Western team will have the home field edge, although that often doesn't mean much.

If I had to bet money, it would be on all the favourites - Calgary and Hamilton to win their semi-finals; Saskatchewan and Montreal to win their finals, and the Als to win the Championship.

Under the current set up the crossover is stupid. Winnipeg was one win behind Edmonton.
Crossover should be changed for instance if fourth place team in one division is six points better then third in the other.

OK, end of rant.

BC over Hamilton, would a good Argo fan ever pick HamCats to win ?

Calgary knocks off Edmonton.

Montreal bounces BC.

Saskatchewan eliminates Calgary.

Saskatchewan vs Montreal for the Grey Cup. Saskatchewan wins.

I don't mind the current cross-over format. It means that the bottom 2 clubs are excluded from the playoffs (and with 6 of 8 clubs making the playoffs, the bottom 2 should be excluded - this year the Bombers were 7th in an 8-team league; they should not IMO gain a playoff berth at the expense of the 8-10 Lions). The x-over format also strongly favours an East-West Grey Cup (even if Winnipeg is sometimes the eastern team).

However, the pre-cross-over days did provide some moments. The funniest was in 1981 when the 5-11 Ottawa Roughriders hosted the 3-13 Alouettes in the East semi-final (and the 9-7 Saskatchewan 'riders missed the playoffs). Ottawa went on to win the East finals against the 11-4-1 Ticats and then built up a 20-1 half-time lead against the 14-1-1 Eskimos, only to lose 26-23 in the dying seconds of the game.

It is certainly possible. Hamilton played very well against the West. They swept BC and split against Calgary, Edmonton and Saskatchewan. The losses to Edmonton and Calgary were by only 1 point. Montreal of course is the big problem for the 'Cats - the Als won all three games during the regular season.

The West is a crapshoot, there is very little to choose between the three teams. When the Stamps play well they are the best of the bunch, but this year they haven't played well with much consistency.

I suspect Calgary and BC win this weekend.

Montreal should take BC or Hamilton, regardless...but I do lean on Calgary to take Sask again (mostly as it is my team...could be the best game of the playoffs if played well).

Then Montreal defeats Calgary in the finale. I doubt it is as close as last year, unfortunately, as I think Calgary (or Sask) shoot their load in the Western Final and may not have much left.

What in the world would posses you to pick BC over Hamilton, Hamilton already beat them twice this year, are playing at home, are getting hot at the right time with 3 straight wins, have the better record. Also BC does not have one quarterback who is currently healthy. I see no reason the Cats shouldn't win this game handily and will give Montreal a tough game in the eastern finals.

Not to mention that BC's defence last in the league in most categories (save for sacks where they are 1st).

Montreal was dominant and will be the heavy favourite.

It will all depend on Durant and whether he can handle the pressure of his first Grey Cup.

What he said.

If the gods lines things up they way they should, Montreal should win but until I hear the weather no score. The Als have no weakness.

Realizing BC has now been dispatched by Mtl, guess it is too late to say 'told ya so', eh? It was just a feeling I had that the Lions were due to do something right back then.
