If we closed the borders in January we would've saved hundred of billions. Cant wait to vote Conservative next election.
How would we have saved hundreds of billions??? Some of us are loosing money with the difficulty in getting to the States. American dollars, that come home to Canada.

The Conservatives better fucking open the borders and keep them open.

From CERB alone. We dont even need to mention the catastrophic damage done to businesses by lockdown.

We have like 25 cases a day in Toronto. If Trudeau closes the border in January we are looking at literally 0 cases a day. And 0 lockdowns. Life as normal literally.

Its so fucking goddamn easy to just close the borders. Its so fucking simple. The virus is coming in from international travellers. Literally just fucking close the damn fucking airport down and Canada would not be in a crippling recession and millions wouldn't be homeless, depressed, suicidal.

What abusers??? The joke is there really are none.
Even if you were self employed, you can work, book the accounts receivable, make a legal claim $0 income in the month, get $2000 CERB payment, then collect the A/R next month from someone elses CERB payment... its batshit crazy the system

Have any of you actually read what "qualifies" for CERB?

If you earned $5000 in past 12 months (that is an average of $100 a week!) you QUALIFY for a CERB payment of $2000 per month (with 7 payments = $14,000)

Even a McDonalds summer flipper earns $5K in a year

Oh and something else which I found out (feel free to ask a Trustee / Lawyer)

IF you declare BANKRUPTCY due to Covid, you can DEFAULT on all your credit card payments, PLUS still LEGALLY receive CERB (Fact. Look it up; a CERB payment is NOT CONSIDERED INCOME if you are in a bankruptcy process)
So you literally walk away from all your debt last year, you collect $14K in free money, and you are laughing when this flu season is over
I am a self-employed consultant under contract with bi-weekly payments and as I am obligated to do - I charge GST with my fee. The company registers every GST payment with the government so you can hide your cheques/cash (if that is how you are compensated) in a paint can in the bank yard but there is a record of your payments. It's not worth the hassle or the risk for me.

The easy and by far most plentiful fruit for the CRA are corporate employees. To quote a government site: "As part of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, the CRA will also be comparing employers' payroll records with information provided by CERB claimants"

To summarize - for people with no income - $ 2,000 is not an income to support a life of luxury. CERB was a necessity for thousands of people. The amount of personal grief that would have resulted if the government did not respond is huge. You always have social leeches at every income level -but it would be wrong to let them dictate the fate of the majority of people that are in trouble.

But many of us travel to the US and Internationally for business. (Regularly...like bi-weekly). and to locations in Canada twice a week...Shutting the airports down is shortsighted and going to cause all kind of unintended consequences . What about those who work in airlines and hotels? Taxis? Limos, Rent a car places??

Your idea of 'life as normal literally', respectfully is fairly narrow.

Never mind the fact that $14,000 (7 x $2000) is far more than you were paid in previous year

The amount of CERB that was paid out is absurd
The minimum requirement for CERB was so low practically everyone and their dog qualified for it

Explain to me WHY we ever needed CERB in first place?
We have an existing system (EI) that would average out your wages and pay you a far more appropriate sum

Overpaying part time employees basically ensured noone will look for work and many refused return to work calls

Assuming she legit paid taxes she would collect EI
If she cheated taxes then she is prob already eligible for welfare
