There is not enough power in a cell phone;s radio to pop corn. come on - think about it. They probably had a hotplate under the table or just dropped popcorn in.

This may have been originally an ad of some kind...but it made its way on to the net and the rest is history. The frequencies that cell phones use do not generate anywhere near enough heat to do anything let alone pop corn.
