Apparently there was a show last night televised by CBC where they performed an IQ test for all viewers. I missed it but found the online version, its actually pretty fun but it does take some time to complete.

I got 117.

I watched the show and took the test as it went. Painful, but not bad by the Corp's standards.

127 for me (the last part was the killer)

The average IQ is supposed to be 100, but the test results show it's about 110. Has this test been properly standardized for the general population? Why are the results so "high"?

134 but had the math questions interrupted by a phone scam.

The mean is probably high because people under 100 probably are too busy working their McD's type jobs and can't figure out how to turn the computer on. (seriously, below 70 or 80 you would be formally considered "slow" - ok, retarded in the real sense of the word)

My problem with this test is that it was designed to differentiate the above and below average and is not very accurate with any one scoring in the genius range (over 130).

119 10/12 and 5/6 on all sections except for the perception section where I got rocked something silly like 2/6.

I think you are pretty smart if you can spell the last name of the host on cbc's show called " this show has 20 mins" or something like that. His name is George Strombolmpolis or something like that.

Cricket you are thinking of the host of the hour. The show you mentioned is a comedy on cbc.

Sure the average scores is also biased because think of the type of person more likely to be interested in trying the IQ test. Generally it would be people who like to think they are intelligent so this skews the average. If the test was administered to a large random sample then the average would have more meaning.

It's like having a fitness test. Scores might come out higher than expected as out of shape people probably wouldn't try the test in the first place.

Personally the intelligence test that I'm most proud of is having written the MCAT and found myself to be above average in all categories (ranging from top 7 to 30% in all categories) since it's a standardized test and the pool is full of stronger/above average competition. However, this is a specialized test so it only measures knowledge and ability to apply the principles of physics, chemistry and bio plus essay writing and passage reading skills. Why did I not pursue medicine? Well let's just say my university marks 80% average demonstrate my lack of dilligence (i.e. lack of drive to push myself to do what was necessary to do even better).

Vegans were the dumbest cohort of all with an average IQ of 103.

Highest I ever scored was 136 but that was after trying a series of online tests and the styles of questions tend to repeat themselves..... in fact this test had many of the same/similar type questions e.g. stars is to rats as 3265 is to ___________.

So this points out another flaw in the system since one could technically prepare for an IQ test with practice tests.

No, Kacy, I don't think they adjust the scores based on the scores of those who are taking it, I think it's set. Your score probably fluctated because you answered some questions differently.

Did they say anything about the validity of this test during the show? I know that when I saw the American version, it said it was developed by a professional psychologist, and was standardized on a general population sample so that the average was 100.

I can vouch for the reliablity of these tests, at least. I have taken two American versions of these "Test the Nation" tests, and have scored 120 each time. The Canadian version gave me 119. My SAT scores (when convereted to IQ) would give me an IQ of 120. Pretty consistent.

There's also the British version: http://www.bbc.co.uk/testthenation/iq/

I took it, and if I remember correctly I got 109. I know that the difference in language/culture accounted for at least a couple of missed questions.
