Every year, billions of tons of garbage end up in the ocean and landfills.
To reduce these numbers and breathe new life into reusable waste, a hard-working man from Brazil, Amarildo Silva Filho, 23, has developed a simple yet valuable hobby for sustainability.
Silva works as a cashier by day and is a craftsman by night.
Two years ago, Amarildo was looking for a way to make extra income using the trash that people throw in the streets. He then remembered that old tires were being used as a refuge by the dogs that live in the streets, so he thought it would be nice if he could bring them the feeling of a home.
He started collecting discarded tires and used them to make eco-friendly and comfortable beds for animals. In this way, he earned extra dollars while contributed to the well-being of the environment.
After successfully turning one of the tires he found into a bed, he made it his mission to make more—and has since handcrafted 6,000 beds.
He gathers every tire he can find in the landfills and streets, and his family helps him. He has also received tires as donations or bought them in bulk.
