Cat lovers: Can two male cats become compatible?

Hello. A question for the cat experts on the board. The Major has 2 adult male cats, very friendly and compatible. MotherMattMason went to a nursing home and left behone one adorable and affectionate 3 yr old male cat. All cats are neutered.

The Major wants to keep all three, as mom loves visits from her male, and was planning to introduce the single cat gradually to the Major's household. Has anyone done anything like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
MMM

I don't think that there should be any problems provided you're able to introduce the new one to your place properly. Ask your vet or do some seaches online as to the best manner. Good on ya for taking him in! :)

male cats are the easiest to intergrate together. If you added a female cat to the mix then watch out.Especialy if they are older cats. I have seen male cats introduced into a situation and they took to each other right away.

Two strange male cats will eventually get along.

A strange male and a strange female will get along.

Two older females? - forget it. They will never get along and will probably try to kill each other at all given times. (Sound familiar?)

Heaven, definately Heaven
One cat will become the dominant alpha cat. But they'll get along. Some actually share the dominance, so long as a 3rd cat does not show up. You can see this when they eat, one eats first, then they eat together, the other finishes last. Like lions, they'll leave food behind for the lower members of the pack. Not one cat eats everything when other members exist.

Pairs are usually good, however. My last cat's name was "Sweetie Fat Cat".

Keep the new one locked in a bedroom, put the food and water dish close to the door so that he gets to hear and sniff out the other cats. Keep separated for 2 - 4 days like this.

Bring ONE cat in for a visit, monitored of course. A day or two later, bring the other cat in for a visit, again monitored. Then just open the door.

There will be some adjustment on everyone's part, but they will settle down.

I have three big orange males, The oldest and biggest has minor boxing matches w/ the newest and youngest (who wasn't well kitty-socialized in his youth) but generally all three are quite content to be in each others' compqany, share food dishes, litter boo\xes etc., and the two youngest play together when they're outside. At least it looks like play to me. But I'm only the lowly human FP.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I took the one in last night and surprisingly things were
quite uneventful. The Mason house is compartmentalized so each cat can have his privacy. The new one pretty much took over and my "alpha" male has turned
out to be quite the sissy.

Thanks again

LOL@ the sissy...that's funny. But it is better to be a sissy that missing an ear or two I guess.

Glad it all worked out for you but damn dude, the HAIR. I have one DLH and I'll be working on the pc at night and see a whisp of fur go floating by....and yeah, I brush him all the time too.

Ah the joys of owning a pet, but it's worth it. You go through a lot of swiffers and lint rollers.

Early spring is the worst when they lose so much fur you think that they should be bald.

This is how you do it if you anticipate problems. If cats have been alone for a couple of years they don't want another cat around. You have to introduce them slowly.

In addition to the above it may help to feed them together when your introducing them. It can help them get use to each other.

My wife and I have 4 cats. Three of which are males. They all get along great. It just depends on their individual personalities I believe.

I tried to take in a boyfriends 6 year old fat male once. I had him for a week. My two smaller cats wanted to play. His cat hid for days and would walk right by the others and completely ignore them. One day i heard a noise and looked and the big male had my small male pinned to the ground by his throat and my poor disabled kitty was gasping. The big male cat went back to his home minutes later. Im wondering though, we have been talking about trying again. Was he trying to kill my kitty? Will they ever be safe alone together if we try again?

The Major had a similar situation with an adult female and a male kitten. The adult female was of bad temperment and had to be put down. Every cat is has a different temperment and personality. Seems these guys are pretty good natured and are coming around slowly.

To JJ - gay cats lol - The two do tend to try every once in awhil..Its the nightime rimming that gets to the Major.
