Dude

you expect all counties to band together in opposition to Trump and that is simply not going to happen

Trump loves to use leverage and he has leverage

he is going to incentivize them to build in the USA as per the deals he is making / going to make

we might be able to save our our share the auto sector or a chunk of it , but not without giving something up
i.e. supply management

you are beyond delusional and completely mis-understanding what is occurring here
like it or not there will be significant re-alignment of trade

and we will get screwed if we try to wait Trump out
Trump lost any leverage the US had. He tanked worse than his weirdo buddy musk

He is going to stick to the norms of negotiations between nations. The shortest a trade has been negotiated is 18 months. So it's likely the USMCA framework is going to be the basis.

Carney is going to send in the real negotiators, go line by line, with regular pauses for approvals, and really just wait out Trump as the economy gets worse and worse. He will need declared wins and so a few concessions back and forth will occur, he will decare victory, and it will probably take a year.

Unless Trump has gone truly off the deep end. Then who the fuck knows.
Trump fell into the stupid end long ago. Bullshit can only keep you afloat for so long and its amazing the bullshit has flated for this many years

Which is why, especially with Trump, a deal is worth shit. Cropes he doesn't even want to sign his name.

Maybe if we bought him a gold plated dogsled for his usage he will hold up his end for a few months.
no question he lacks integrity, he is not honouring the deal he signed
based on principle we should spit in his face
but that would not end well for Canada

there is far too much at stake to allow emotions to cloud our judgement

The Chinese won't buy most of their stuff....what then? Remember they make less money. You think Ford F-150's will suddenly become the hottest seller? It's the USA that is addicted to cheap Chinese products. And rare earth's.

Now you think a 30% tax on all Chinese products coming in is a win?
You need to think bigger than trucks and look at things called "strategy". Trump is stupid like a fox.

Here's a good summary by (gasp!) CNN:

The new reality
In the end, the Trump administration has somehow managed to lock into place dramatically higher tariffs – a 10% universal rate across the globe and sector tariffs that largely stand untouched. And, while recognizing that tariffs aren’t going back to zero, trading partners are still lining up to get a deal done with the United States.

That lawmakers and foreign diplomats alike appear willing to overlook – or even outright accept – that a 10% global tariff rate is basically a nonnegotiable reality at this point is perhaps the best window into the moment Trump has led the world into.

Trump’s team said that shock-and-awe strategy to get a “win,” even out of significant tariffs that remain in place was the strategy all along.

Trump preferred Carney as soon as he knew Carney was going to win.
Before that he preferred Pierre because he thought he was going to win.
What Trump's preference is regardless is a non-factor.
What Canadians prefer is what's most important and they seem to have overwhelmingly preferred Carney over Pierre.
Hence the shellacking.
Cool story bro! You should become a fiction book writer.

Canadians were duped into believing Liberal fear mongering propaganda only to give Trump what he actually wanted all along. Trump preferred Poilievre until Carney became the Liberal candidate.
You need to ask yourself why...if you can shake free of your brainwashing.

ps you call a minority government a "shellacking"? that's funny! What do you call a majority?

well it might be best if she does not create any more stupid liberals
I think it's funny that the former Minister of Finance who "accidentally" forgot to disclose the actual deficit numbers in last fall's budget, is now Minister of Transport but doesn't own a vehicle.
Yeah...this should go well.

Carney says he will drive the Canadian economy to be the fastest growing economy in the G7
he is going to do this with a bloated government, immigration @ 5% of population and with the same lot of cabinet ministers who's only real expertise is over-regulating the economy and creating bureaucracy

for the sake of my country I hope he proves me wrong
however, he can not grow the economy without repealing bill C-69 and abandoning his fairy tale net zero agenda

instead we will get stagnant growth, more inflation , more very dangerous debt and further deterioration of east / west unity

and right on cue the ecowarrior fool Steven Guilbeault shows he still thinks he can stall the growth
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/canada-needs-maximize-existing-pipelines-164515688.html

OTTAWA — Canadian Culture Minister says Canada needs to maximize the use of its existing pipelines before building more.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the first meeting of Prime Minister Mark Carney's new cabinet, the former environment minister said less than half the capacity of Canada's Trans Mountain pipeline is being used.

His comments come after Carney appeared on CTV News Tuesday, signalling an openness to building more pipelines if there is consensus across the country for it.

Carney also opened the door to make changes to the emissions cap on oil and gas production and to the federal legislation for reviewing projects called the Impact Assessment Act.

During the campaign Carney said he would keep the emissions cap in place.

Canada's oil and gas sector has indicated no desire to build new pipelines under the current regulatory environment and have asked for the cap and the assessment law to be repealed.
Steven Guilbeault has zero understanding of the infrastructure needs or the economics of the oil and gas sector
he is a lunatic socialist ideologue

The Trans Mountain Expanded System has a nameplate capacity of approximately 890,000 barrels per day (Mb/d).

In 2023, Canada produced 5.1 million barrels per day (MMb/d) of crude oil
the real agenda is still to keep the oil/ gas in the ground

So....you are for an increased tax? A sales tax on all foreign consumer goods? To pay for a tax cut that will benefit the rich?

Ok sure. Guess what? It won't bring back any of the manufacturing. Because there is no industrial policy. No incentive to move production. They will just hike the price by 10%, blame the tariffs, and that's it.

You think they will buy less oil, less electricity, less lumber, less paper pulp? You think, especially because there is no deal, to Congressional law passed, to real quid pro quo, that business won't wait a few years, and get this killed?

It's amazing how naive.

Net-zero according to the Liberals is net-zero improvements to Canada's economy. They have been doing well towards that goal over the past decade.

There, fixed it for you.
It is Pierre's MAGA-lite rhetoric that caused him to lose his own seat.
Are you so desperate that you need to edit other people's posts?

That is a sure sign you really have lost the argument.

No surprise...you were starting to talk gibberish anyway so glad you conceded by doing something stupid and weak.

All I did is correct your narrowed view of the outcome and provided some info above/beyond just my opinion.

You didn't thank me.

Instead, you offer prophesying.

Lol. I'm "correcting" your disregard for common sense. Trump is only focused on the tax bill. The only way it passes reconciliation is if he can generate revenue to offset it. DOGE was a complete failure. He can't go into deficit. He had to raise the Pentagon budget to appaise the war hawks. So to get the Freedom Caucus on board he needs these tariffs. Once it's done he can go back on his word on tariffs, and try to claim wins. Then if he loses the mid terms as a lame duck, sit back and watch the Dems deal with the deficit spending necessary to clean up this mess.

Just As the USA will be likely in a full recession. With Stagflation.

Yes the misquoting is a dead giveaway of desperation in a debate...I've been saying this for years on here.
