Guyana has basically three dominate races, black, East Indian background and Portuguese and mixes of all three races. I married a Guyanese girl of Portuguese background whose family history was from the island of Madeira. There were many political issues when blacks took over the government and overran the Indian and Portuguese who had been the business leaders in the country and some left the country taking their money and possessions with them which then the government would only allow people to leave with only the clothes on their backs. Luckily my wife's family of 7 children left early enough to Canada with possessions, she was 16 at that time a d both parents worked very hard and her and her siblings have done well here. This is typical of most migrants who come to this Country.
