hi guys,

looking to purchase a car, a new one and have it down to three models:

vw passat cc
audi a4
dodge challenger r/t

of them all, challenger wins the award for performance and pricing, followed by passat cc and audi a4. im not really sure which 1 to go for, and my pocket isnt that huge for a down payment so while figuring out info on their website, the challenger's montly payments seemed the most legit. anyways, i was wondering, should i wait another month to purchase to see where this financial turnmoil is heading and whether the apr rates on these new cars will go down? dodge has 6.99%apr quoted on their webpage, passatcc has 3.9%on 36 months and 48mtns+ is 4.99% and same goes for audi. now i realize i cant really compare the three cars in terms of their performance and what they offer as they are three diff. cars, but any suggestions as too what i should do and if i should wait longer? any help would be great. thxs

Buy the Challenger, with the biggest V8 available. And buy it immediately, you should be able to get a better deal now than when things settle down. And if it really is a giant financial crisis and the end of the world, you will have a cool car with a giant V8, instead of a pussy European car.

Can't comment on the Challenger, other than to say American-made cars horribly unreliable. Don't get hung up on performance of a new Challenger; instead get Lemonaide and Consumer's Report and determine what they are like in the long run.

If you are going to choose between the A4 and the Passat, though, its a no-brainer. The VW product may look similar to the Audi but it is not. Lower quality throughout, in both parts and finish. Much less reliable over the long term. The guides should confirm this for you. Only reason to get the Passat is if its the diesel.

Yeah, that's it, support a company that flourished during the war by using slave labour.......

As for the three vehicles listed, the challenger is a totally different vehicle than the other 2. It all depends on what kind of vehicle you are looking for. The Audi and VW are capable of being driven 4 season here in Toronto but the challenger? Plan on parking it if more than 2 snowflakes fall: like all rear wheel drive pony cars it will suck 100% in the snow.

As for North American cars being horribly unreliable, unless you can produce proof of this, I'd say it is an unsubstantiated biased opinion. I've owned North American vehicles and imports and never NEVER had a problem with either. Plus one has to compare apples to apples: you cannot compare a bottom of the line sub compact bargain north american car that costs $10K to a bottom of the line import that costs twice as much.

I'd suggest you buy a pontiac "Vibe", then you can say you drive around in a sex toy lol........

Come on Tboy... I guess you have nothing in your house made in China either........give me a break!!!!!! Got any American Levi's??? Got some great Canadian Roots wardrobe?? lol!

And yes..........you want some proof of shit North American cars........I bought nothing but North American for 20 years having that buy Canadian mentality beaten into me by my father....and had nothing but problems...and best is the service centers don't fix any problems...they get paid when you keep coming back........some fine examples within the last 7 or 8 years is a top of the line F-150 that was in 23 times for warranty repairs.......a Chrysler Crossfire that had 3 transmissions put in in 3 months..........a Chrysler Pacifica that was in 17 times for warranty repairs.....and a GMC Sierra that was in the shop more than my driveway.!!

Now I have a one year old BMW with 60000kms.........no problems.........a Nissan Titan pickup.......two years old.......90000 kms........no problems.........and a three year old Toyota Camry.......100000 kms........no problems.........so there is my biased opinion!!!!!!!

But I guess it's just coincidence the last 3 cars I bought have been the only cars I've ever bought in the last 20 years that weren't lemons!!!

Oh and by the way the Nissan Titan is made in America........just to some good standards!!!!! Or you can get that Ford F150....made in Valencia, Venezuala or Cuautitlan, Mexico or the Sao Bernado do Campo plant in Brazil!

Oh and my great foreign Camry is made in Kentucky I believe!!! But again...to some standards!!! Aren't alot of the Chevys built in Mexico and Korea now???

And having driven at least 50 various models of fine cars the last few years on all my business trips when I rent cars.........BMW is the hands down winner!! But just one man't opinion!!!!!

Oh and I only was able to wrap my head around buying a non BIG THREE car when I became internet savvy and did some research and found that alot of our BIG THREE cars AREN'T made in North America.........and alot of the supposedly big bad FOREIGN cars ARE!!!!!!!!!!

LOL dude, F150's made in brazil? You smoking crack?

As for things made in china, if I do, I don't have many......and I doubt ANY chinese labourer has ever been summarily shot if they fall behind in production....

Actually, your anecdotal evidence only tells me one thing: if you're dumb enough to buy lemons, and keep buying them, then well, that speaks volumes. I call the bullshit card on the 7 or 8 yrs F150 warranty work, BECAUSE THE WARRANTY IS UP AFTER 3 YRS!!! Now if you're going in for body repairs, the rust through warranty is longer.....

Anyhow, as I've said: I've owned North American and Imports and never had a problem with ANY of them.......

Cars that I have owned in the last 7 or 8 years.........dude!!!!!

And yes 23 times in for repair with that piece of shit under warranty........and that was within a year.....because my kms ran out then..........dude!!!

And do a little research dude..........and find the plants these things are built at!!!!!!! Unless the internet is full of people writing about fictitious plants in other countries.....yes they do make F 150s in Brazil and elsewhere since taking it away from Oakville.........and GM has plants in China and Korea dude!!!!!!

And now you say you own imports???????

I've only had to own 4 cars in 20 years, 2 imports 2 domestics and none of them were unreliable. I think in 20 years I've been to a dealer for service less than 5 times total.

I own an import now but I think the domestics have been improving their fit and finish and driveability enough to warrant looking at some of them if I were looking to buy.

And isn't a Chysler Crossfire German?

LOL you're funny.

Yes, cars and trucks are made all over the world but the one YOU bought? Was probably made in Dearborn Mi. Do you really think it is cost effective to ship a vehicle 7,000 miles?

Anyhow, continue to buy your nazi machines and I'll continue to support our North American manufacturing base.....and continue to drive trouble free.

Passat is the only VW car I'd consider and it's the best of that bunch. Won't pick up chicks with a VW or Audi.

I'd elect to have more fun and go with the Challenger R/T.

just had to consider the overall 'utility'.

All new cars today are "daily drivers"...the days of hot cammed motors that won't idle smooth, run right when freezing cold and won't hook up in the rain are long gone. The Dodge won't get as good mileage but can even be driven in the winter...front wheel drive would be better but not needed anymore with traction control.

The Dodge might be a chick manget too :D What you spend more for gas, you might save on for dates. $250 might get you a all nighter, instead of a 1 hour date....something to think about.

hahahahahaha, priceless tboy, priceless.

I'm trading in my 7 Series tomorrow so I can buy a car made by unions who have successfully driven themselves out of business by producing shit cars that no one wants to buy.

And yes, one word: China. Say no more. Did you watch the Olympics? Brought to you by slave labour. Jesus. haha. Ever drank a Seagrams product? Dirty dirty dirty goes the big companies of all stripes. Take your pick.

Zip Car sounds great for a city like Toronto if you need not to have a car everyday. But those cars aren't too cool  ...need some higher end cars.
