Some things in my favor regarding rates.............
I don't use my vehicle to drive to work since I'm on disability so it's for pleasure only
I park it in my private garage
it's a 2001 Chev Malibu
I'm 60 years old, never had an accident and no tickets within the last 10 years
I've been driving for 44 years without a blemish on my record
I also have my house policy with CAA

Just watch out for a scam recently in the news where cheap auto insurance is given with an authentic looking slip, but there actually is no coverage.

If you have family out of the GTA just transfer your address to there get your insurance. Rates are cheaper out of the city

The other part of insurance you need to evaluate is what the company is like when you have to make a claim. Some are very aggressive at denying, and fighting claims, others are much easier to deal with.

Not a good idea, if you say you live out of the city, and even register your vehicle and drivers license there, but have an accident obviously commuting in the GTA the insurance company will more than likely deny your claim and cancel your policy for misrepresentation if you are lucky. They may even go as far as calling it insurance fraud. Then the only place you will be able to get insurance is the Facility Association at $1000+ per month.
