The Cyclone is based on the seriously flawed S-92. I am not sure if they fixed the flawed gearbox that caused a tragic crash just over 10 years ago. (I suspect they did not). Its very strange for a helo to crash like this. Its possible it was flying low doing a sub hunting exercise..at that altitude its pretty unforgiving.

the one confirmed dead is a female solider from Nova Scotia. She went to a buddy's church.
She was also the solider shown playing the bagpipes from the ship last week overseas after the mass shooting in NS.

DOD is saying the helo hit the water at high speed. Prediction - gearbox seizure or loss of main rotor. This helo has a bad gearbox, and as I said before, I suspect they have not fixed the issues
