I heard on the way home that Mayor Miller is dead set against the NFL expanding into Toronto, although I agree that it would be the end of the CFL.

How do the rest of your Terbites think of the newest plan to bring the Indianapolis Colts to beantown. Me, I'm all for it (kinda charged up after watching Invincible I guess!!)

See: http://www.hoosiergazette.com/2003/December/Sports/sports004.asp

Although I don't know why they feel Miller is our new Mayor and the open arms ......forget any City of Toronto money going towards a new stadium if Miller is re-elected.

Government money should never go towards any stadiums that house pro teams period.
NFL in Toronto won't happen for 20 years at least. Forget about it happening.

well, with plans (shhhh) underway to replace the aging dome, I can see the new merger bringing the NFL team once the new minimum 60,000 + minimum requirement stadium is built...

So TRUE!

Also, lets face it, Americans have sports engrained since youth. Hasnt anyone else been to Pencil, Texas? Home of the Rubbers? The high school team has highway signs of the years they were champs, and domed, yes domed stadiums for high school football where the whole village is so immersed they couldnt even tell you who the Cowboys are!!! Ok, so maybe theyve heard of them, but thats why sports in America thrives....when was the last time more than 10,000 TERBites went to a York Yeoman vs. U of T Blues football game??? and thats uni. football!

ok can we give the NFL in Toronto thing a rest, we been hearing about it for like what 20 years now, its not going to happen for two reasons, one the list of American cities that want NFL teams is a mile long, once they get through every US city that wants an NFL team then maybe they could start to entertain a TO team, second where the heck are they gonna play the 50 thousand dome by the lake, yeah ok big ugly concrete structure that is way too small for a big boy league like the NFL

Exactly, NFL minimums for any new teams joining the league is 60,000 thought 80,000 is preferred! They cant play at skydome, yes SKYDOME!

Toronto is a much bigger market for the NFL than any US market without a team (Los Angeles being a special case). It is at least double the size. Just buying a team is a $500M+ investment at this point, so building a stadium is not a huge deal by those standards.

Yes, 2027, I am sure, been hearing about since 1977!!

NFL is TV driven, and US ratings do not count Canadian viewers, never mind teh fact we're simply too small. The US TV $$$ isn't there for Canada.
$1Billion for the team, plus a stadium, never mind operating costs in US funds....

if other north eastern cities can handle mid-winter outdoor games, Toronto can too
as long as there's plenty of beer, there'll be people (at least for the first few seasons)

move the Argos to Oshawa

the difference is that the TV market for Toronto games will be the whole of Canada, not just the Toronto area

I dont think having the bigger market makes difference since the states is full of die hards bred since young (see post #7). Sure everyone says thy'll support the NFL in Toronto, but if it were that simple the NFL wouldve moved here a long time ago. Besides, how long would the honeymoon last here? Are Toronto fans really sports fans? Or do we just support winners and the Leafs? Fact of the matter is basement teams in the NFL sellout weekly cuz theyre fanatics....a simple look at the 'fans' of our sporting teams here tells you otherwise...suits who watch the first in the platinums then spend the rest at the bar chatting watching it on the 20" tv screens...a far cry from those Raider fans ;)

OMG!! When will this stupid moronic pipe dream die in Toronto? The NFL will NEVER expand or move to Toronto! It's a mirage and a whimsical dream. Stop talking about it! Never going to happen. Ever. Kind of like the NHL in Hamilton. NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
