I have watched a replay with position of all runners. DeGrasse was already leading. He made sure to close it in a very spectacular manner.

Degrasse has class, if there is one team game in track and field the 4x100 relay is it.
Degrasse got the handoff just right and at cruising speed, the SA sprinter was closing in fast
and finished 0.07s behind. The handoffs take forever by comparison.

Donovan called the win too. He mentioned minutes prior to the race how team Canada men track and field have been together for a while, and although they might not be as fast as the Americans that they would beat them with experience and that all the other contenders, especially the Americans had to do is make a mistake and Canada would Capitalize on it. And that's exactly what happened. They won the gold cause the Americans shit the bed.
