The future of letter mail is definitely on the down side but parcel delivery is way up. My cousin is a postie so I follow this stuff a little more. Canada Post is a crown corporation and as almost always posted profits that go to the government all this info is online. Last contract posties lost there sick days plus new employees start at 18$ per hour. In two years minimum wage will be 15$ so it will closer to minimum. This time the company wants to eliminate the pension plan. Last thing I do not know this for sure but he told me the union expects to be locked out in July as this is a good time for the company because volumes down in summer.
I thought they were federally regulated? Is that now what the federal minimum wage is going to be?

You still have to mail in a passport application including the 2 photos. Can't do that online yet. Shipping and receiving using Canada Post is almost always cheaper than the couriers. If you're not home you can go to a nearby post office, which pretty much everyone in Canada has close by. Courier depots are usually out of the way.

You are right though that the letter mail business is totally dead. You only get junk mail or community papers that way. You can receive and pay just virtually all other bills or statements online these days.
Speaking of which, I am waiting for my passport to go on holidays. With electronic signatures now being legal there should be an easier way. I waited only half an hour in the passport office and chose to go to Whitby for that reason. They said I could pick it up in Scarborough which is a zoo - no thanks. I will take my chances with the posties.

Intrepid you are right it is federally regulated. No talk as far as I know of raising federal minimum to 15$. I will say that I would not be surprised if TRudeau did it but no talk so far.

Are you usually home when the delivery is made? I use to have them deliver to my office but the boss said the company is not my personal dropoff box and the mailroom staff is not at my personal disposal.
Anything of importance usually goes to the closest post office and a slip is left at my door. I've never had a problem receiving valuable items.

I've actually made good money selling old stuff on ebay. My primary shipper was Canada Post as it was still cheaper than other parcel services.

CRAPPY service ,Crappy Attitudes.Unrealistic Business Plan oh know .......What will I ever do without Canada Post????
Fedex.....UPS.....Atripco....Sprint Courier.....even Purolator (Owned by Canada Post) are all Eons more reliable ,and business friendly.
I had a customer waiting for his engagement ring to show up so he could propose. My custom guy used Priority Post ,because they GUARANTEE delivery by noon next day.
Well at 2 pm he leaves to go home and await a call (his plans for the day shot) At 2:45 the delivery happens ,and once I have my say .she basically proceeds to lecture me on how much extra work she has because of the holiday schedule(it's July) ,and if I want to TRY and get a refund I should go online and complain ,not to her!
Tell that to my customer ,who waited 3 hours ,during a break from Chemo ,so he could get engaged on the day he chose.
That is 4 years ago ,haven't used them since.

I don't know what your point is.... many Torontonians who live in condo's like myself have a concierge and they collect packages for us on our behalf, so i don't have to be home.
I think he/she likes to build up his/her post count.
