Canada Emergency Response Benefit? What are the questions?

I am scheduled to apply for my Emergency Response Benefit on wednesday. For those who have completed their application, what sort of questions are asked? Are the questions easy to answer? I guess I probably have to answer a question about my taxes: I probably have to give the amount for a random question about one of the numbered lines on the tax form?

Speaking of taxes, anyone who applies for this needs to keep in mind the money is not tax-free.

It's a taxable benefit, and you will be expected to declare it as income on your 2020 Tax Return.

I applied through the toll free number they provided. I was on the call for exactly 2 minutes. All of it was automated and all I provided was my SIN number, year of birth and pressed one a few times to confirm that what I was saying was correct. The last thing the recording said was I’d see the deposit in my account in roughly 3 business days. Was really easy! Good luck <3

Try applying from today (April 6th) even if your birth month is scheduled for a later date. I have heard of people who applied today even if their birth month was for a later date and they were able to process their benefit successfully.

When you applied by phone, did you have to give tax information?

They ask for your sin number and your year of birth. That is it. No tax info. They ask you confirm you understand that you are telling the truth about your income and your application. Two minutes on the phone. Nothing more. Just make sure your taxes are filed/will be filed by new cutoff.

The birthday month is all BS, they don't want everybody to apply at the same time and crash the site. They are not going to reject applications because they did not follow their scheduled dates.

I'm still getting paid by my company but I think it won't be long. Maybe my company will get the wage subsidy instead.

I was told by a friend that they had to provide tax information when they applied online thru the CRA website. Since I do not have easy access to my tax info, I will apply by phone. Sorry, MissSageHuntet, but I have two more questions. Which phone number did you use? (There are two phone numbers you can use). What time of day di d you call? (I image the line will be busy at certain times).

No worries :) I called 1-800-959-2041. To be honest the other number they supplied didn’t work for me and I called at at 8:22am with zero wait time.

Thanks for the info. To pay you back, I may book a session when everything returns to normal (although I have basically retired from the hobby).

I have a question regarding the length of payments? What if you are re-called back to work, or find another job, can you cancel it? Do you need to keep re-applying ?

Seems to me they're handing out 2K a month on an honour system. No ROE, no proof of employment, no explanation how they are qualified.

There's going to be fraudulent applicants galore. And they're going to get the same dough as someone who pays their taxes and contributes to the EI system. Fuck, this government is lenient.

Probyn-

That’s sweet of you and I do hope we can meet when this is all over but I honestly just am happy to help.
This is a rough time for everyone and we need to be kind to one another and help in whatever ways we can.

I hope it goes well and everyone here along with their family/friends are and continue to be well mentally, physically and financially <3 <3
