Marc Emery, the so-called “Prince of Pot” of Canada, has been accused of sexual harassment and grooming by a former associate. None of the accusations have been proven in a court of law.
The allegations, made online, include “unwanted touching of teenage girls and female staff,” “giving teenage girls marijuana,” and “grooming and exploiting young women.”
The main allegations come from Deidre Olsen a journalist and self-described “queer, non-binary writer” who has written articles like “Is It Time to Retire “Mom” & “Dad” and “Destigmatizing Cannabis Consumers.”
Emery created Cannabis Culture in the 1990s which operated as illegal marijuana dispensaries and was extradited to the USA for drug charges in 2005, where he served five years in federal prison.
Since then Marc Emery has continued his marijuana advocacy, particularly around the issue of legalization.
“You’d have to put up with his unwanted sexual harassment and advances to stay in his good favour. He’d tell long stories of his sexual exploits in other countries where the laws are more relaxed for older men to engage in sexual activities with underage girls,” claimed Olsen in a Twitter thread outlining the allegations.
Emery has also worked for the New Democratic Party and the Libertarian Party of Canada in the past, when he ran for the 1980 federal election as a libertarian candidate.
“It is my sincere belief that I have never harmed anyone, or sexually aggressed anyone, in my life,” responded Emery in a public Facebook post.
The allegations also describe hard drugs like MDMA being distributed to teenagers at parties Emery hosted.
Emery admitted that he did in fact make some inappropriate comments in the past and has written about sex but claimed that he has not had sex with anyone under the age of 19.
One post revealed that Marc wrote extensively about his “anal sex fantasy” in which he described how “its Ok if the woman is uncomfortable, nervous, unsure about you *** f***ing her sweet little bung hole, by the time you are a raging *** bandit, it’ll be too late for her doubts to get in the way.”
Emery has been separated from his wife and partner, Jodie Emery, for over a year, who is now in charge of the Cannabis Culture chain.
