Damn! I'm feeling old! (I'm 42)
Just got back from a shin dig with an open bar. Hung out with some late 20 somethings and early 30's "dudes/chicks".
A couple of shots and and five beers laters, I'm dragging my sorry ass out and headed home. Meanwhile, their night is just beginning!

Between a rock and a hard place
Just after the marriage split from age 34 to 37 I had a lot of rebound friends in their 20s. I kept up with them then but Im 41 now and know that theres no way I could do it.

Well lay off the alcohol a little and become the DD that way you can charge your "friends" gas money when they are tanked over and over again :)

Don't even try, nor do I want to.

But on the flip side, they can't keep up to me in the gym either. I'm 48.

I suppose that it is all relative.

No problem

No sweat........ever notice how the young crowd starts later in the evening?
Mine don't even leave the house till 11 pm. Shit, I still use happy hour as a warm-up.

As Malibrook says, "AS long as I don't have to drive or work...too early" then YES, I can drink the young ones under the table usually. My step son is 19 and has a bunch of drinking buddies... Pussies... 6 or 7 beers and their done. When I was 19, I could easily go thru 15 + in an evening. But then again, I am a large guy...

Course now adays it's Rum and Scotch... I can kil a 26er in an evening...

Offstage, instrument tuned.
Years ago I discovered that staying away from too much alcohol (other than a token ale), (or any 'recreational drugs' that were floating around) meant that I usually had a better time. The other upside is that I often had to take that young intoxicated lady home and tuck her into bed. :D

No problem. My buds and I fortunately come across 8-10 years younger than we really are and when we set our minds on a good night in a bar or club it's hard to find others in the younger crowd that can keep up with us.
Experience, tolerance and pace.

I am older than 45 and I can still put down quite a few . The thing is though I try not to as often as I did . I had a friend who was over 250 lbs and used to put away at least 12-14 beers every day , now he has diabetes.
I can do better in the gym though than a lot of guys half my age .
I don't think being able to put away a 26 er is anything I'd like to do or brag about.

According to you, I belong in the younger crowd. Partying all the time gets tedious after a while. There's only so many after hours you can go to and there's only so much foreign substances you can ingest before you get bored of it or you need it to stay 'normal'.

Now a days, I'm more content with quality rather then quantity. I derive more joy from a great meal or a well made drink then mass consumption of drinks. I also pick and choose the parties I attend rather then attend everyone because I tend to loose interest in it fast. There's only so many people you can meet before the quality of those conversations go down hill b/c the effort on your part is not there due the monotonous nature of the party scene.

I limit my drinking these days to when I'm away on vacation.

Although, I do overinduldge at those times (my friends are also guilty of over consumption), I completely abstain when I'm home.

Generally the tropical setting, the heat and the "party" atmosphere contribute to the drinking. And when I'm at home - it's all work, all the time.

My nephew recently moved to the same city as I, and I have recently started hanging out a little bit with my nephew and his friends, and they are all a good 10-15 years younger than me. It took me awhile to once again build up my stamina, but I can keep up with them, alcohol-wise, although I freely admit I am not, nor have I ever been, much of a drinker. The drinking part is fine, but I find I really don't have much in common with them, but on the other hand, everyone I know my age is married with kids or otherwise no longer going out very much.
