Can people see my VPN access to an XP machine while being at the machine?

Hi,

Recently, I VPN-ed to the XP machine that's assigned to me at work; and I kicked someone off the machine in order for me to log in. Could the person that I kicked off, who has a different log in ID, and persons near by who were looking at the machine's monitor see what I was doing?

What I was doing was that I wrote an e-mail with private information (my salary) to HR and I'm hoping nobody at work saw this.

Thanks.

Yes I'm pretty sure they were able to see what you were doing. We use vpn at work to take over other's computers when dealing with issues, and they can see everything we do on the computers.

Unless there is a setting in VPN that somehow allows you to hide what you are doing, and it's enabled, then you may be in luck but I doubt it...

VPN is a secure tunnel to a network. Once you are on the network, what do you use to get onto the PC? Are you using remote desktop, VNC, etc? Sounds like you connect, use some remote desktop sfotware as you said you had to log off someone. Depending on the remote access client, they may be able to see you or the screen maybe blank.

So, to answer your question, maybe.
