Can Niagara Rama survive?

With the new changes at Woodbine ,Mohawk and others becoming full casinos now will Niagara and Rama be able to survive. Will the buses ebb running down every half hour to Fallsview?

It will take a bit of time though Woodbine is already under construction but there will be no reason to head down the road to Niagara. Great Canadian Gaming now run Woodbine Ajax and Blue Heron SLOTS and May 1 will take over gaming at Mohawk Flamboro Grand River and Brantford.

MOHAWK "Racetrack" Canada's premier harness track is currently under construction with 10 million dollars being spent on refits upgrades as Standardbred Harness Racing will now be year round at the new "Woodbine Mohawk Park" and Woodbine will revert back to Thoroughbred racing only.

I can see Casino Niagara closing leaving Fallsview as the premier place in the area. But with competition from across the river.

Fallsview will likely see a huge decrease in patrons but it will always be there. It also depends on how the Woodbine turns out. I know a lot out people who don't like going there now because the employees are quite rude and its always crowded and cramped in there.

With recent renovations to Casino Niagara, it made no impact in increasing patrons. It pretty slow there. Not sure what they will do with it as I heard its a packaged deal for who ever takes over Fallsview.

Casino Rama is already taking a hit. Its very slow there already and I'm sure they will stay open anyways to cater to the people up north.

I'm surprised they kept Casino Niagara open. It's 3 blocks from Fallsview. Unless CN caters to the older crowd while Fallsview is the more hip glitzy younger crowd type of venue.

Rama will survive since their fix is a little more generous. Falseview is a license to steal, it will go under.

Von are you saying that the slots at Falseview do not pay as well as other places. I am only an occasional gambler so I am not familiar with the terminology you used. Also is there a way to find out the percentage payouts.

Fallsview will not go under. That's just a stupid uninformed comment.Casino Niagara on the other hand might close in the near future. As far as competition from across the border, not to sure how many Canadians want to lose 30% on exchange before they even get in the door.

Fallsview will never go under, Casino Niagara might. Its pretty dead there now ever with the newly renovated level 2. Who the hell decided to put xbox and playstatons for patrons to pay to play in a casino?

Fallsview does not pay well at all, money doesn't go far there either. Its in a tourist area so they figure, people will come no matter what. Rama is more generous because its so far away.

Fallsview will lose alot of patrons also because they get bused in from the GTA.

Also, with a new 5000 seat theater in a already busy area of Niagara Falls, might deter people from going.

Has any of the planners visit the city on a long weekend? Its hectic, no parking, traffic jams, crowded everywhere. Fallsview Casino is already busy on concert days and extremely long wait times at the restaurants. Imagine what 5000 extra patrons will do.

Has any of the planners attended a concert at Casino Rama? Its a 5000 seat theater and its in the middle of nowhere. When the concert is done and when people leave, its takes 1-2 hrs to get out of the parking lot.

Sure but you get that back when you convert back. It's all proportionate. Sure if you make say a $10 US bet it's actually a $13 Cdn bet. But you win $10 US and not $10 Cdn. So you're not losing on the conversion, only on the house edge.

Back to the OP
Fallsviews/Niagara can both survive. They can easily get the younger crowd from the US as they can't gamble on their side.
Rama still has the surrounding population and the northern communities.

Gambler's don't always choose where to play based on location. I've met someone from Barrie would drives to Fallsview to play because he doesn't like Rama. I know another from TO that goes down to Windsor than travel to Niagara or Orillia.

Some people I know aren't fond of the neighbourhood Woodbine is in.
I've also heard people complain how the 2 casinos are the WORST from slot payouts.

The point is that it all depends how Woodbine is run and comfortable people feel there. Look at Windsor, they compete against 3 US casinos.

When you lose, which at a casino is more often than when you win, you lose 30% more.

You always lose on the conversion. Take today's conversion for a US dollar.According to TD if you buy $1 USD it costs you 1.3456.To convert $1 USD back to Canadian they only give you 1.2654......so not sure how you win.

If you go to Senaca, get a player's card. When you convert to US give them your card. When you want to convert back at the end of the day they will do so at the same rate you exchanged before.

Do they keep track of the winnings? lets say I go there and convert $100 Canadian @ 1.34. What stops somebody that already has additional US funds and convert it back at that same rate?

Really depends on the new atmosphere with the new Casino Woodbine. I was just there and I found that the workers were rude,. Its so crowded there. The patrons gambling there are a different crowd that goes to fallsview. If it stays like that with the new Casino Woodbine, I know I would stay going to Fallsview.

I didn't know construction had already started.

It seems like a good idea to me. It sounds like it will be connected by a walkway, but otherwise a separate venue (all-ages) from the casino complex. The current Fallsview venue is great (and I hope they keep it) but it's just too small to attract many of the type of acts that play at Rama and Caesars Windsor.
As someone who doesn't give a shit about gambling, I've only gone to Rama and Fallsview to attend their entertainment venues. I prefer Fallsview. It's more like a mall with a food court, and the actual casino (which I have never gone into) as its biggest store, and it has the rest of the city around it, as opposed to Rama which is just a casino in the middle of nowhere.
Now that I think about it, a 6000-seat theatre type of venue (like Radio City Music Hall in NYC) on its own (without a casino) would probably be a good idea for downtown Toronto or maybe Exhibition Place.

I have a relative who works at the Mohawk Racetrack( now known as " Woodbine Mohawk Park ") She told me the new owners Great Canadian Gaming who take over May 1 are buying up some unused space from the Woodbine Entertainment Group which own the building for expansion of the Casino which will be called ELEMENTS CASINO MOHAWK.

The race track itself has been undergoing a ten million renovation since the fall.
