During your year out there, did you get a chance to go to the University of California Berkeley? If yes, what was your impression?
Naw, too much “woke” there. I was more interested in adventures with terrible women.

I will say LA has the greatest Mexican food I’ve ever had. Even better than the places in Mexico I’ve been to. There’s a Filipino/Mexican place out there with a food truck that drives around called White Rabbit that has a pork belly burrito that I’d choose as my last meal if I was on death row.

It’s seriously worth chasing the truck on an app around the city.

One thing LA gets right is food, that’s for sure.

Beautiful hiking, the Malibu canyon is stunning to drive through and when I had enough, I burned every one of my bridges there so I wouldn’t be tempted to return.
So it's your fault?
I remember Jay Leno talking about it 20 years ago. He was laughing about the hill fires being put out by the mud slides and on and on. He went on to say "what next? locusts?"
However. It is the greatest country in the world. As they say.

Donato's re-election bid was cooked when the neighbouring States agreed with California's water conservation proposals.

Not only California is hurting, Arizona has summer temperatures into the 40's, there are massive dust storms in Nevada and Colorado is losing snow caps. The only State that went red in Utah.

Heh heh.

Wouldn’t that be something epic

Post WWII - California was primarily a red state in the glory years. Then it turned blue in 1992 and it has been downhill ever since. Maybe a coincidence?

Cause and effect?

The political career of Arnold Schwarzenegger began in 2003, when Arnold Schwarzenegger entered politics for the first time by running for Governor of California in a recall election. He was subsequently elected Governor when then-Governor Gray Davis was successfully recalled and served the remainder of Davis' term between 2003 and 2007. Schwarzenegger was then reelected to a second term in 2006 to serve his first full term between 2007 and 2011. Schwarzenegger was unable to run for a third term due to term limits imposed by Constitution of California, but has still been involved in politics and the promotion of environmentalism.

1950 is ancient history. 1992 is more recent and much more relevant.

"In recent history California has been a blue state since 1992.
1991-99 Republican governor
1999-2003 Democratic governor
2003-11 Republican governor
2011-21 Democratic governor

If I remember my political history correctly, California was right wing before it made a left (and disaster) turn.

Let's get something absolutely crystal clear: there is no "left wing" government anywhere in the USA. There's nothing even in the centre range of the political spectrum. None. Nada.

There are essentially two parties at both the federal and state level in the USA: an occasionally progressive centre-right conservative party, the Democrats, and an off-the-wall, bat-shit crazy, reactionary far-right party, the Republicans.

That's it.

No political parties in the US even support universal health care, which every single other industrialised country on the planet has had for 60-plus years.

This has everything to do with how you are defining "left wing".
Under most definitions, the whole "The Democrats would be right wing in Europe" kind of falls apart.

I would say the Canadian models of left-wing, centrist and right-wing are far more like those in Europe than those in America.

The Democrats would most definitely be right-wing in Canada. Even our Conservative party, which has been swinging to further to the right in the past decade, supports universal healthcare and most elements of a welfare state.

The Democrats would not be right wing in Canada. You are mistaking "what they were able to pass" with "what they support". The Democrats would overlap the NDP and the Liberals.
