The puck drops tonight in Norfork for game one of the AHL's Calder Cup Championship Final.
Game two goes tomorrow night also in Norfork. The series then comes to the Ricoh Coliseum, home of the Toronto Marlies, for games three, four and possibly five.

Go Marlies Go !

This is great & invaluable experience for these players. They are learning how to win in the playoffs and bringing pride to the Leaf organization.

The Senators had 7 players on their roster this year that played on their Calder Cup winning team last year. They all contributed this year.

Best of luck to the Marlies!

I watched the last half last night and the Marlies need a PP, 0-8? It's clear the Admirals have the better team but having said that, GO MARLIES!!!

It is going to be a hard round for them as they are missing arguably their best 3 players in Kadri, Frattin and Zigomanis

The Leafs now have a problem with Dallas Eakins. He has now demonstrated he is a great coach and I am sure that is not lost on many of the other teams around the league. Leafs have a habit of losing coaching talent - e.g. Marc Crawford and Joel Quenville who both went on to win cups. Dallas has really put the Marlies franchise on the map and he has developed most of the Leaf talent. I can understand why they went with Randy Carlyle but they have to take care of Dallas or they will lose him for sure.

Eakins just signed a 3 year extension to stay with the Marlies (or do as the Leafs organization see fit)

I think that it is a very smart move on the part of the Leafs to lock him up. I would not be surprised if he is coaching the big club before the end of this contract. I am sure that there is an option in the contract to increase salary if he goes to the Leafs.

Lets not forget that this is Eakins first time leading a team to a playoff position . We may think he is a hot commodity cause he is the Marlies coach but their are many AHL coaches who have done more then him . I am not saying he isn't but sometimes we have tunnel vision as T.O fans .

So....the Calder Cup that the Binghamton Senators won last year did nothing to help the Ottawa Senators this season?

Not sure if he will end up coaching the Leafs in the Burke era. What Eakins has been credited with is being excellent with the development of young players. Burke needs to have a team that will make playoffs this year or his time will be up. Right now the team is more veterans heavy and a respected coach like Carlyle is probably needed. A 3 year deal is good cause a lot of Eakins' boys should be with the Leafs by then and Eakins can easily step in and have the room.

I think the deal allows Eakins to pursue NHL coaching positions after the first year.

The new deal Eakins is for three years and does have an out clause to pursue an NHL job after the first year.

Oops

I made a mistake in the title of this thread .... it is Norfolk with an L as opposed to an R.
