Cab drivers ripping people off last night!

David Beckham 23

I'll bend it like........
Trying to get a cab home from downtown last night. Expected the wait, but the cabbies where ripping people off left and right and taking the highest tip. We had finally stopped a cab when two others came after us. They offered him an extra $50. We lost. Stopped another cab, he asked how much extra would we pay. Even saw a few cars picking up people for a $50 flat rate for a $20 cab ride.

but ttc was free...courtesy of Capitol One company. (by the way, I think the only credit card in US which does not charge currency conversion, 3% extra fee.) Posting not a shill, they charge you for other things if you not on time.

anyway, ttc was free.

It's illegal for cabs to charge extra, hope someone gets their number and reports them.

Yeah where were the cops, oh looking for the ones driving after drinking because they could not afford to take a cab.

I found the TTC does not go everywhere.

I've learned to get into a cab before telling the driver where I am going. Even on other days of the year they will sometimes try and decline short trips if they think the next passenger might be going further. Once you're in the back seat it's much hard for them to say 'no'.

I have found an effective way to overcome their games is to pull out my cell phone and start dialing their dispatcher number to report them.

it's actually illegal for the cabbies to do that if they are licensed and authorized. threaten to take down their license # and report them to the city.

Good advice, its cool if theres a bunch lined up waiting..like at the end of the subway line but then coming back from where you been its a pain. Coming back from the X-mas party the driver told me to pay him first ! and $30, it was $25 getting there but what could I do at after 1am and no other cabs around.

Don't wait for the city. Call their dispatcher on the spot with your cell phone and complain. This is why you get into the cab first: So they can't drive off when you start calling dispatch.

Can't afford a cab

If you can't afford a cab - get a designated driver or - here is a flash - if you can't afford a cab, you can't afford to drink in a bar - especially on New Years at the inflated prices. And, if you are at a house party - stay there if you can't afford a cab or get a designated driver

I am getting sick and tired of the drivers that think they can drive when shitfaced drunk and kill some poor innocent person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I hope the laws are changed so that it is not longer manslaughter - it is out and out first degree murder!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately 1st degree is for when there is premeditated intent to kill. I sincerely doubt that drunk drivers head out intending to kill a particular person (for the most part anyway). I'd be happy if the judges would actually fine the bastards instead of just a slap on the wrist.

Agree with the rest of your post 100% though.

here, there and everywhere!
Try getting a cab at last call on New Years Eve! We phoned every cab company in the book for two hours straight and got nothing but busy signals. I figure the dispatchers just took the phones off the hook, because the cars weren't responding to radio calls - just trolling the streets for their rip-off upsells. Bars should have a priority line in to cab companies to help keep drinking drivers off the road.

This is the exact reason why I do house parties with sleepover arrangements or book a nearby hotel.

Too many fucking losers looking to make a quick buck and I also refuse to drive if I have been drinking.

I used to have a corporate account with Diamond and I fired the fuckers because they seemed to conveniently forget the money I sent them all throughout the year when I needed the same quality of service at busy times.
