The "john" charged in the recent sting appeared in provincial court Tuesday and pleaded guilty to a charge of "obtaining a sexual service." He was ordered to pay a $300 fine

I get around.
Most interesting aspect of this is that the john was not named by the media, which is many hobbyist's biggest fear.

Also he took a guilty plea which makes me think he used a public defender instead of hiring a lawyer and trying to fight the charges.

And - even in Saskatoon, what can you get for $20, a quick hand job from a crackhead?!

Am I going blind or did he offer $20 for a sexual service to an undercover cop? He could have just offer her a large pizza or a big mac meal in exchange for sexual favor and not get in trouble.
The wording of the law says "consideration" so the payment for sex could be anything - money, pizza, Valentine's Day gift, engagement ring...

Does the John have a criminal record now? Or would it be $300 fine and John school...first time offender, no record?

LOL, That what I was wondering...what the heck do you get for $20 bucks? Phone sex on your cell phones when you're sitting beside each other?

You don't necessarily go to jail by pleading guilty but pleading guilt to a criminal charge means you agree with the court. If he fought it and won, the record would only indicate he was charged with the offense.

Offering $20 to an undercover cop for sex - he had the perfect excuse for pleading not guilt. "Your Honour - $20 for sex from the beautiful lady. You must realize that it was a joke and not a serious offer for sex. Hell I couldn't get a quick hand job from a crack head for that let alone full service sex from this gorgeous police officer. The more important issue here is the terrible insult to this lady by the officers who charged me and yourself if you convict".

Wow, so even if you are found not guilty of an offense, the stain of the charge is always there and may show up on a thorough background/security check. Still could be very damaging depending on one's chosen vocation.

and so what begins? If you're soliciting on the street and offering anyone $20 natural selection dictates that you should be charged
If this transaction took place nowhere near a school, religious institution, or where children would be reasonably around AND if the hooker was of age and consenting, should this guy have been charged still?

In my opinion or according to the law?
