Anyone can share experience with buying damaged vehicle on copart in USA? For example, good option for BMW X3, link here.
They say that repair cost is 22K but this is probably official dealership cost, it might be possible to repair it within say 10K, so it nigh be good deal in the end...

Don't do it, especially since you know nothing about cars. I know you know nothing about cars because you are asking this question.

Will it not be shown on the ownership as "branded rebuilt" that will make a difference to the resale value.

I know nothing about body repairs, but find it hard to believe it would cost 22K to fix that.Seems to me it would be alot cheaper.

Here in Ontario if an insurance company has written it off, or paid its customer compensation for the loss of the car or motorcycle it will be never ever be allowed to be it back on the road ( at least in this province) it's a mine field in my opinion

not true. What the insurance does and who it pays is its own business. I've known of cars that were written off by the insurance company because the repair cost exceeded the value. The owners were free to buy their cars as salvage, repair them at their own cost and put them back on the road.

Yes, the ownership certificate will be marked as such (and the seller is required to specifically disclose it).

Yes, you right, when I was young I rebuilt engine for my second car, but not anymore, it's not fun for me anymore. I am not planning to start business. It's just an idea ... to get BMW X3 at 1/2 price and use it till it dies, no plans to sell it or anything like that...

That's actually a great idea. Who cares abt the resale anyway when it's that cheap. Plus, once you're done it will be as good as new.

My view on those sites is that someone has already looked at the car and concluded they cannot fix it and sell it for any kind of profit that is worth the risk...

True.

However, insurance companies frequently write off vehicles if they calculate it is cheaper for them to pay the claim and recover the salvage value than to fix it. Their decision has nothing to do with road worthiness or safety after repairs... and at least in those cases it can work if you can do at least some of the repairs yourself or get someone who will do it for less than full going hourly rates for a body man and mechanic... AND you intend it for your own use and not for resale or you are prepared to take a licking on any resale at arm's length.

If it passes safety, it will be plated. The title records will always show that it is a restored vehicle.

I know a guy that bought cars that met that description from a body shop, with repairs done. And he was quite happy. One way to do it would be to get a damage appraisal and take it to a shop you trust and see what they say before you buy it.

Two years ago, I was at a red light when a woman crashed into my car from behind. They had to change the plastic bumper cover and one metal bracket and paint it to match. The total cost was $2400 for parts material and labor. Dealer labor is $95 an hour.

Dealer quoted me $250 for electrical problem with door (diagnose and repair), got it fixed for 80$ cash plus parts 50$. Air and cabin filter replacement cost at dealer is 110$, replaced it myself, literally 15 min work plus 45$ parts...

Thats right boy's - this week I went for an emissions test on my suv and it failed they pulled out the code on obc (EGR Valve). Went to a mechanic and he wanted to charge me 750 labour parts and diagnostic.
Found the part in question at CT and 45min later fixed! Check engine light went out. total cost 129.00 for the part. Last year I changed the plugs on my G35 coupe, dealer wanted 600.00. Went on to youtube
found out what to do. Total cost 45.00 for the plugs and two hours of my time. THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!
