Buying a strip club

Been out of work for a while and am thinking on buying a business. Just saw a listing for a strip club for sale in downtown Toronto?

Not sure which place it is since the broker has not yet got back to me. What do you guys think, is it a good investment? Keep in mind that I have bar and restuarnt experience.

Or it could be the former Cheaters that now has a new name I forgot or just can't remember at the moment.

As the poster above has stated there must be a reason if a SC is for sale.

Do your research.

I was looking into buying a SC a while back and found that they had problems with extortion. Apparently this is common with SCs. Do your research and find out if there are any other problems with the building, zoning or redevelopments.

If it is Jilly's, it is a really good location that may do well if it is managed properly.

If it's just a management problem, you might do better in the same location!!

Exactly. SCs are basically licenses to print money. If they're not, then there's usually a very good reason why...

From what I understand (and take it with a grain of salt), Diamond Dolls closed down b/c WAGG and Pro (both biker-run bars) wanted a cut of the action. When it wasn't forthcoming, the bar shut down. DD also had liquor law violations, but it's right next door to a university for cripes sake! If you can't make a SC work in that location, you can't make it work anywhere!

Why not work at one for a few months and get the behind the scenes view of the buisness.

It can't be a bada bing experience.

I know of 2 clubs that have been hit hard because of the no smoking and there insurance rates whent threw the roof

ya i think most strip clubs are operated by shady businessmen..... unless you yourself have connections in the underworld i wouldnt decide to buy one

I agree... BUT... If the former Cheaters is for sale I would be willing to bet it is because their printing machine broke down and the parts are no longer available. And that would be the reason why it's for sale.

Cheaters and Jilly's, two very seedy strip bars, which in my opinion makes them exceedingly fun places to visit. I remember visiting Cheaters back in the 80's when I worked at Yonge and Eglington, I believe it was one of the first establishments that offered lap dancing. Jilly's is a great location, what an eclectic clientele, I also like the building itself, with a major reno it would be quite nice. Early morning musings from Dabbler

The Baron and I went to look at a strip club in the GTA that was for sale....As we were coming out of the office with the owner, one of the dancers and a million year old man came out of a room. whereupon the dancer hands the owner 40 dollars.
Needless to say, that was the end of that.

Oh yah! I remember the Cheaters of old. Back in the early 90's it was a happening place. I also worked in Yonge/Eg area back then and was a regular there for a long time. And yes I believe that is where lap dancing started. Now these days though... it's not at all what it use to be.

I spent a lot of time at Cheaters '93-95. It was my exposure to the sex trade after my marriage ended. Lots of takeout back then. Lots of $$$$$, but lots of fun.

My fav dancer back then (actually my first ever table dancer) was Mercedes. A petite little blonde Newfie. To this day... every time I go into Cheaters (although it`s been a long time) I think about her and wonder what ever happen to her. She was something else.

001... if you can turn back the clock, get Mercedes back... $5. dances oh and $3. roast beef sandwiches... you`ll have at least one regular for sure.

Don`t forget $3.00 dances at lunch time. (late 80`s)

That was the place that corrupted me lol. When I was regular there, there was about 6 core girls that were there day in and day out. The only name I remember was paige, she was like all the others at that time a biker babe.

I gotta tell ya, I love what they did to the place recently, but I have to admit I miss the old seedy look..finger prints on the mirrors. One time when I was in there the waitress emptied my ashtray on the floor and put it back on the table, now that`s class lol.
