Hard water retards rusting instead of speeding it up. Living on the escarpment water is as hard as it comes.

Hard water does not retard rusting of your water heater. Hard water contain iron. Iron deposits rust, which causes a catalytic reaction for the metals in the water heater to rust and deteriorate.

i don't have gas in-house or else i would have rented that. at less than the price of a good meal a month, i wouldn't spend much time thinking about the buy vs rent issue. and a gas one needs a certified plumber/gas guy to install/repair. plus i'd be the boss. i don't mind letting somebody else play that role. but each to his own.

Went to home depot. Wasn't expecting the installation costs to be as much as the tank but I guess it makes sense. Estimate will cost about $1500. Renting at $30-40 month, takes about 5 years to pay off. I like those numbers. I don't think I will change gas or electric, just gonna go with whatever the house has unless something comes up that makes a difference.

Just need to wait til I actually move in so they can take a look and see exactly what is needed.

Anyone with National Home? I'm not gonna get locked in with them automatically when I move right, I can used them at beginning until i decide what to do or who to rent from?
