As far as I know you have to convert PC movie files into usuable Home DVD files so that your DVD player recognizes it.
I'm no expert but I think thats the way to go.

I'm gonna start DVD copying next week and I'll post my successes and failures.

Also, the same goes for MP3, you must convert them to .wav files in order for your home CD player to be able to play them

the movies are probably in PAL format, 25 frames per second. PAL is used in Europe. North America uses NTSC. You want to convert the PAL format to NTSC then burn to a DVD to watch on your home player.

If you had a DVD player that played PAL you could watch without converting.

depending on what you use you may have problems converting between formats. you will have audio and video sync problems.

google your problem, google is your friend.

I had the same problem, constantly freezing until I switch to a different brand of DVD media. I use Ritek brand and no problems.

Fraekshow, you have to give us more info. What type of disks are you using. Are you burning ISO/image files or video_ts files?
Since the movies actually starts playing means your on the right track. My first thought would be the type of dvd. Try switching to a different brand. I went through so many types of disks before finding the right kind for me. Not all disks work the same for all people. I know of ppl who use really cheap disks without problems. Most ppl rave about ritek but I've had nothing but freezing and glitches using them. The best for me are memorex dvd+r. +/- can also make a difference. Memorex +R work for me while memorex -R don't work that well.

Its the software... it thinks you are trying to create a Video CD. Try getting yourself a copy of a program like "Ulead DVD Workshop" or "Adobe Premier".

I went through months of wasting blank DVD's with various software before I figured it out. Programs like Nero and Easy CD Creator will convert your video files, but they do not author DVD's properly.

Its a slow process, as a full 4.7 GB worth of video files can take forever to convert, but the end result is worth it. I now create DVD's that look totally professional, but I quite often start the converting when I am going to bed because of how long it takes.

Also, make sure programs like Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus are disabled. Not only to these programs conflict, but you need as much RAM as possible to get things to work.

use a cd-rw or a dvd+/- RW so you dont make coasters.

once you have it downpat then burn to non-rewritable media.

as for media I have never had a problem and dont burn coasters. I have used cheap media to expensive. for me it does not make once difference and I have 3 dvd players. sony, pioneer and xbox. I've lent them out and no one has complained.

Nero does author DVDs properly you just dont know how to use it.

PM me what files you are trying to convert and I bet you I can walk you through the whole process.

That exact same thing happened to me before while using Nero.
There are 2 tabs in the upper right corner. Make sure you click DVD, not CD.
OR
Where it shows your dvd drive letter + dvd burner description, eg. F: LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S, make sure at the end it says [DVD] not [CD-R/RW]. If it's not on [dvd] just use the pull down menu and select the right drive.
