Toronto police have announced that a man has been arrested and charged with the first-degree murders of Andrew Kinsman and Selim Esen, who they presume to be dead.
Police said they arrested Bruce McArthur, 66, of Toronto, on Thursday morning and will search five properties connected with him in Toronto and Madoc, Ont.
"We believe he is responsible for the deaths of Mr. Esen and Mr. Kinsman, and we believe he is responsible for the deaths of other men who have yet to be identified," said Det-Sgt. Hank Idsinga. "In other words, we believe there are other victims."
McArthur was self-employed as a landscaper and lived in the Thorncliffe Park area, police said.
Idsinga said the bodies of Esen and Kinsman have yet to be found, but that police have a "pretty good idea" what their cause of death was.
"At this stage, we are most concerned with identifying other victims of Mr. McArthur," he said.

Kinsman, 49, went missing from Cabbagetown in June, while Esen, 44, was last seen in the Yonge and Bloor area last April.

A police task force called Project Prism was established in August to investigate their disappearances.
Rumours had swirled in Toronto's gay village that a string of disappearances from the area could be connected, but in December, investigators had said that there was no proof that a serial killer was operating in the area.
On Thursday, police Chief Mark Saunders commented on that statement.
"In policing what we do is we follow the evidence, and what I said at the time ... was accurate at that time," he said.
Now, police say they are actively working to identify other possible victims.
They ask that any member of the public with information contact them at 416-808-2021.

McArthur had sexual relationship with Kinsman

News of the disappearances of Esen and Kinsman also sparked concern among residents in the heart of Toronto's gay community about the safety of online dating.
On Thursday, police said McArthur had been active on several dating apps, as were both missing men.
Idsinga also revealed that McArthur and Kinsman were involved in a sexual relationship for "some time." He said police still don't know if McArthur had a relationship of any kind with Esen or if he "just met him that day."
He declined to specify how McArthur had met the two men.

Andrew Kinsman's sister Patricia told CBC Toronto that police called her just a few hours before Thursday's news conference to tell her that they believed they had found her brother's killer.
"All I could keep saying was 'oh my God, oh my God and thank you, you've done your job,'" she said.
Kinsman said that her family had slowly come to grips with the thought that Andrew had died in the months since he disappeared.
"Even on Dec. 9, my sister Karen and I were still searching ... just at that point we knew we were looking for a body. But you always have that .5 per cent hope that he's going to come back," she said.
She said she was still in shock from the news, but hopes that "this will give us a little bit of closure."

Friends of 66-year-old Bruce McArthur were left shocked and speechless to learn the Toronto man is facing two charges of first-degree murder after the disappearances of two men.
McArthur, a self-employed landscaper who lives in Thorncliffe Park, was arrested by police at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
A friend of McArthur’s from Lindsay, Ont. immediately began sobbing when confronted by the news.
“No!” said Marion Clark Luchies, “Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it, she said, stifling sharp gasps. “I’m just flabbergasted is all I can say. I have nothing to say. I’m just flabbergasted, that’s all.”
“I’m just absolutely shocked, beyond shocked.”
Luchies attended Fenelon Falls Secondary School, located in the Kawartha Lakes, of which McArthur is also an alumni, according to his social media.
McArthur’s Facebook account offers a glimpse into his life, which appears to be filled with family get-togethers and time out in the city’s gay community.
But a closer look at his friends list reveals he also appears to be connected with missing man Skandaraj “Skanda” Navaratnam.
Navaratnam went missing in Sept. 2010. He and two others, Abdulbasir “Basir” Faizi, and Majeed “Hamid” Kayhan — all middle-aged and members of the Church and Wellesley area community — disappeared between mid-2010 and late 2012.
The disappearances of these three men are being investigated by police through Project Houston. Information in that investigation was referenced by police in relation to McArthur’s charges, police said in a Thursday afternoon press conference.
None of the men have been found, although police are looking for links between the Project Houston disappearances and those of Selim Esen, 44, and Andrew Kinsman, 49, for which McArthur is facing charges.
In many other photos on Facebook, McArthur is shown dressed as Santa and posing with families, suggesting he worked as a mall Santa.

In 2016, he posted a photo of three York Regional Police officers on Wellesley St. during the Toronto Pride Parade. He’s shown attending a number of the city’s arts and sports venues, including Roy Thompson Hall and a Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre.

Cops have found 6 bodies so far

Police say remains of 6 victims found in Bruce McArthur investigation

Toronto police have now recovered the remains of six individuals in an investigation into what they have described as the work of a serial killer.

Bruce McArthur, 66, has been charged with five counts of first-degree murder in the disappearances of Andrew Kinsman, Selim Esen, Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi and Dean Lisowick.

Speaking Thursday at a home on Mallory Cres., near Bayview and Moore Aves., where Bruce McArthur mowed the owner’s lawn in exchange for storing landscaping equipment in the garage, Det.-Sgt. Hank Idsinga said Kinsman’s remains are among those recovered.

Idsinga also said police have now found the remains of six people.

Investigators have expanded their search to more than 30 properties tied to McArthur’s landscaping business.

Police have been at the Mallory house since Jan. 18, when they arrived with a search warrant forcing Karen Fraser and Ron Smith to leave their home. The owners were briefly allowed back on Feb. 1 to collect personal items and clean their fridge of spoiled food.

Police have since found the remains of three people buried in large planters that they say tended to by McArthur at the Mallory home

Going to be tough to sell that house!!
I think the law is that the owner has to disclose there was a dead body on his property, is that not true??

When I listed my house thats the first question comfree asked of me

Not superstitious at all. Would totally buy a house that had a dead body in it if it meant I got a deal in this market.

If you're not superstitious, then a dead body isn't a factor, so there is no reason to get a deal.

The reality is that if you're going to drop top dollar to buy a house (in Moore Park I believe), then you don't want ANYTHING that could detract from the value of the house. You view your house as an asset and in order to maximize that asset, it has to appeal to the maximum number of people on the open market. A huge number of potential future buyers are NOT going to be interested in dropping open market cash on a house that a serial killer used to dispose of body parts. It's just too freaky for most people.

Now granted, you will still be able to sell it, it will just depend on the price. But the current owner (I would suspect) is going to take a substantial hit on the price of the house. (I have no idea how much, but all things being equal, it's gong to be now worth a lot less than what it was worth before this was uncovered.)

The Owner could sue the killer for diminished value, but good luck getting a dime out that guy.

I don't know if home insurance would cover such a thing to be honest. (The serial killer rider.)

Either way, I feel for the Owner.

If and when they do decide to sell, they will need to disclose it.

If I recall, the house that Paul Bernardo did his killing in in Port Dalhousie was razed and they built a park. (Now granted, Bernardo was killing his victims inside the house and in this case, the killer was just burying the bodies on teh property. (Maybe it would be mitigated if he was just burying them in planters as opposed to the grounds, hard to say.)

Either way, I certainly would not buy it for top dollar.

But someone will definitely buy it, albeit at a diminished value.

If I'm not mistaken, the body parts were discovered in planters, not inside the house. Bulldoze the yard, redo the landscaping, problem solved.
