Sorry for re-hashing this thread but this guy is destroying his legacy and becoming a bit of a laughing stock in my opinion.

NFL Network's Scott Hanson reports that free agent Brett Favre "will continue to throw and work out" despite telling Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday that he wanted to stay retired.

You've got to be kidding. Favre reportedly said he's still not totally sure about whether he'll stay retired or try to play, even after "confirming" he'd re-re-retire to Childress and in an ESPN interview. Asked by Steve Mariucci how he'd feel about his decision on Wednesday morning, Favre replied "I'm wondering that myself."
There was a ton of coverage of this on NFL Total Access last night and Favre is just hogging up the spotlight when there are so many more interesting stories going on in the NFL Training Camps.. I was never really a big Favre fan to begin with due to his gunslinger mentality, I prefer my QBs to be less reckless with the football and not be a double-agent as they say. And Favre was that - a double-agent. Good enough to keep both teams in the game if you know what I mean. Obviously he has been exceptionally durable throughout his career and the Vikings in my opinion are already a very good team with or without Favre and one could argue they are a QB away from being a SB contender. I watched a lot of Vikings games last season and I saw 3 issues with this team.

1. QB play
2. STs play - awful
3. TOs - Especially from All Day.

Fix those 3 things and you have a team that can not only make it to the SB but win it.

very unimpressive...

Farve maybe destroying his legacy as a Packers but he is making new fans in Vikings Land ...

2-0 with a allstar running back ... watch out !!!
He hasn't hit 400 yds passing in 2 games....Drew Brees gets that many yards in one game. I saw the Vikings/Lions game live on Sunday. I was shocked at how little mobility Favre showed. He also did not attempt one long ball. My guess is that his arm is shot. There wasn't even any zip on the short passes. I think this move by the Vikes is gonna bite them in the ass the same way it did for the Jets last year. When the time comes that Peterson gets shut down by a decent team (he was shut down for most of the game by the Lions), then they are going to have to depend on the ol' gun slinger. And he'll be firing blanks. I predict the Vikes will not make the playoffs if Favre remains at the helm...

His legacy is unquestionably being tarnished by his antics and performance over last season, and this one so far...

Has Favre retracted his retirement yet??

I bet that by the 2nd game of the pre-season Favre has signed on with a team.. I think he is going to skip part of training camp and come in last minute.

If Favre can realize his limitations, he can still be a great QB and lead a team like Minnesota to victory...
If Favre really realized his limitations, he should remain retire for good. Some people just don't know when to quit. He should have hired some of our TERB professional girlfriends and when the sessions are over, they would keep yelling at Favre..."Your Time Is Up!!! Your Time Is Up!!!" LOL!!!

While I agree with most of your post I take exception to the last sentence. He's been pulling his "antics" and waffling for several years now ..... at least 3 or 4!

BTW, his Sears commercial is funny, never thought he'd admit to his waffling and stuff. The only thing I've liked about him in years .....

As for his no interceptions so far there's no way that will last! By the end of his season (I predict he won't play all 16 games) his TD-INT numbers will most likely be close to even as usual.

...however, in terms of tarnishing his legacy, I think that once he moved from the Packers to the Jets, it took a hit. When he was a bust a the end of the season, when the Jets needed him the most, it took another hit. The fact that the Jets didn't want him back, another hit. When defenses finally catch up to Adrian Peterson, or he goes down injured, and Favre has to carry this team...and fails, one more hit..

I'd say that makes a pretty tarnished legacy...

In the grand scheme of things, this will not impact Favre's greatness much. Many years of incredible success will be the thing he should be remembered by. Right now, the Favre act is a bit of a circus, and he has looked silly over the past few years because of it. He is an old man trying to hang onto some of his past glory...

If the worse thing that we can say about Brett Favre as a football player is that he did not know when to quit, I think that might not be so bad.

So far Favre has stuck to the game plan in Minnesota. As long as he does that, the Vikes will have success.

I think that the Vikes will need to get some practice in their mid to long passing game using Percy Harvin. If they can work that into their game, teams will be screwed to stop their offence and key on AP.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the coaches in Minnesota are smart enough to start working on it now so that when teams decide to stack the line and force them to pass, they will not be ready.

As far as Favre's arm being shot, I highly doubt it. But I have not had a chance to play catch with him, and compare that to when I played catch with him 10 years ago.

If Greg Lewis had made catches like that with the Eagles he'd still be one. I sat there hoping Favre would throw a pick but the old fucker did it one more time. Still hate the bastard LOL

LOL.. props to you, it takes a big man to admit that he can sometimes be wrong.

Just to be clear, I was not sure if his arm was shot or not. I was going by what I had seen in the past, and trusting that the Vikes doctors, coaches, scouts and managers had seen enough live practice before they made a decision. As well, I am sure that sports reporters from other teams who cover practice alot would have noticed the difference in his throwing.

I still think he has tarnished his immediate image by they way that he has handled his "retirement". When I saw that sears commercial I had to cut the guy some slack.

Well when they need him to throw it he sure can, what a finish and throw by Favre with 2 seconds left in the game.
Actually I missed this and am relying on ESPN radio's account of things. They say he threw a certain interception that should have been returned for 6 the other way right before the TD pass to Lewis. If the SF linebacker didn't have stone hands we would be lamenting Favres poor judgment instead of heroic finish, according to ESPN radio.

not that impressed...

24 of 31, 271 yards, 3 TD's, no INT, 135.3 QB rating...... i would say he got his revenge on the field with Green Bay.

Man i really cant stand what this guy does off the field with his i retire, well on second thought, trade me, should i retire again bullshit he does every off season but when it comes time to play ball this guy is the farkin man and pushing 40. The Minnesota program is fitting him perfectly and at the beginning of the season i said playoffs for this team but lucky to get outta the first round........... barring any injuries to a few of their major players on D or O they are looking amazing and should be hitting the conference finals this year and who knows what could happen then.
Green Bay was exposed for what they are..a team with a very good QB..but Offensive and Defensive lines that suck the big one....any scrub could have had a great night with the protection Favre had.I don't think they did much more than knock him down a couple times after the ball was gone..hardly close to a sack. Rogers, on the other hand was constantly running for his life, on almost every passing play. The Vikes had 8 sacks..unbelievable. I will guarantee that Favre would have not been able to make that game close had he been in Rogers' shoes....

All that being said, you gotta be amazed at Favre's skill level, at his age...although I am not sold on this team as being among the likes of Pittsburgh, New Orleans,or the Giants. The Vikes are not frauds like the Broncos....but they are suspect....

I think my Chargers are the bigger frauds in that division. This team is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball, but they don't seem to be able to do anything.

Phillip Rivers is the only guy on the team that looks like he has some balls.

reluctant kudos

Hate to say he is doing a LOT better than I expected. Of course if the stupid SF LB hadn't dropped the sure pick6 Favre threw him last week we would be talking a bit differently. But to his credit that was the only stupid pass he threw and he got away with it. He usually throws a couple per game avg.

He's still an ass tho :p
