Brent Sutter to coach New Jersey

Brent Sutter has stepped down as general manager and head coach of the WHL's Red Deer Rebels amid speculation he is headed to the NHL.

NHL sources tell TSN that Sutter stepped down from his junior club to pursue a head coaching job in the NHL and that Sutter is the odds-on favourite to be named the next head coach of the New Jersey Devils.

Brent's brother Brian will take over the Rebels. He has 13 years experience in the National Hockey League with the St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and the Chicago Blackhawks. He won the Jack Adams Award as the league's top coach in 1991 with the Blues.

Could it be that amidst all the hype over UFA signings lately, that Lou Lamiorello has quietly made the most significant offseason move? If this turns out to be true, Sutter would be the perfect choice for that team.

I hope Sutter does well in New Jersey, I do enjoy his way of coaching and the man has nothing but success in the Junior level on all scale. But I am not going to jump on the bandwagon just yet. He has never coached on the top level so time will tell if NHL and Sutter is a good match.

I hate it when ex-jocks shed the tears at every fucking step in their athletic career. Get a grip on reality buddy! Life is a series of job changes.

If you are going to cry, cry when you lose your job by being fired or laid off...like a normal person would...Mind you that could be before the season ends in NJ.

Lamoriello just wants someone else to fire (other than himself) when the Devils fail to make the playoffs this season. He lost his best defensmen and his best center to free agency, and his goaltender is getting old.
