While I have no objection to giving away a free boob job, making women beg for it is a little tacky.

Booby prize up for grabs
Radio station's latest contest a real bust
By ANN MARIE McQUEEN, Ottawa Sun

An Ottawa radio station is hoping to grab listeners by the breasts this holiday season. With a contest for a pair of new ones, that is.

Hot 89.9, the upstart urban outfit which entertained listeners this fall with popular "The Fugitive" and "Scavenger Hunt" contests, kicked off a beg-for-boobs promotion dubbed "Breast Christmas Ever" yesterday.

"If we give you new breasts," teased a deep-voiced announcer, "we won't expect you to hold them against us."

Listeners soon lit up the phone lines to either enter or rant, said Mauler and Rush, who join Laura Mainella and Josie on the morning show.

"We obviously have some people that are angry and some people that get it," said Mauler.

Operations manager Rob Mise stressed the contest is geared to the station's largely 18- to-34-year-old female listeners.

'VERY COMMON'

"We know it's somewhat controversial for people who don't listen to our station," said Mise. "But people who listen to our station understand breast augmentation is very common in most settings."

One woman called in yesterday to ask if the contest was open to those wanting a breast reduction. She was told yes. Another wanted to praise work she had done years ago by Ottawa's Dr. Lloyd Van Wyk, who donated the $5,000-plus operation after several other physicians refused.

There were e-mails from mothers lamenting their now-fallen pairs, others from want-to-be-busty A-cups -- "Please help me," wrote "Chestless Me," "while I'm still young enough to really enjoy them" -- and some from the men who love them.

One man nominated his "beautiful wife," a mother of two, explaining, "we are good people stuck in debt."

Rush emphasized the winner, who must plead their case in 89 words or less, could be anyone, even a cancer survivor looking for reconstruction.

"We're not daring people to do it," he explained. "It's their own body and we're giving the woman a chance to do something she's always wanted to do."

Over the coming weeks, station staff will sift through entries -- there are already hundreds -- and choose 10 finalists. Van Wyk will assess each one for their physical and mental fitness before a winner is chosen Jan. 15.

I remember over a year ago Howard Stern was giving his female listeners a chance to win a pair of breast implants.

Hey as long as they're round, firm and the scars aren't noticeable I'm all for it ;)
