I am will always advocate to think for your self and wake up and stop being a sheep and not allowing your civil liberties and rights to be undermined.
What about thinking the government is RIGHT ABOUT COVID and you should listen to them, because they HAVE YOUR BEST INTERESTS AT HEART.

Too radical for u ?

What do you think will work then since these lockdowns are not doing much?

They cover rapid testing techniques well in this podcast. Although a lot of topics are discussed Michael Mina outlines how it can work.

I don’t like to criticize without having a viable alternative solution.

What do you think will work and how do you see this thing playing out? I am not an expert here but last time in March when we had a few hundred the lockdowns did fuck all and the virus lingered. Even if they get it under control it will still linger and will re-emerge. How about the vaccine and how long are they before it takes global effect like a year? By then the virus will have mutated and potentially resistant to the vaccine.

Right now these blind and ignorant lockdowns are a path to further disaster as indicated in this OP incident and many similar ones. The fall out of blind ignorant lockdowns is worse then the problem intended to solve.
We should do what we should have done in the spring. Pour all the resources into the segment of the population that is actually dying from Covid. The number of cases is meaningless if the mortality is not addressed. For what we have spent in this province so far, we could have DOUBLED the staff at the LTC facilities, where the vast majority of deaths are occuring. We could have put every facility in its own bubble, with live in shifts and the in and out testing. We CANNOT test everyone in the time that it matters; isn't that clear by now?????!! And even if we could, today's "pass" is tomorrow's infection because this virus spreads quickly and efficiently. Israel is a great example. They went into a hard lockdown, tested the shit out of their population and their vaccination program is the envy of the world. Guess what, they're about to go into another hard lockdown with, perhaps, a curfew. If they cannot implement the "universal approach", with their tiny size and the world class health system and compliance, what chance do we have in Ontario?

Add to this separate all covid and infectious cases from hospitals in separate offsite hospitals like the one they build in Burlington. I agree with the staffing, preparing and bubbling up. This is a viable solution. They had a year to get all the equipment, resources, PPE filters, train and pool staff for response but they failed and failed and keep failing and not learning anything. It’s like they need to hit the ground hard make really bad mistakes over and over again destroy the economy and livelihoods to learn what to do.

Its like watching a train wreck in slow motion and there is nothing to do but scratch our heads face palm till we are blue. The outcome will be the same, the result will be as expected, many are seeing it and what needs to be done but the ones in charge.

Imagine how fucked we would be if the virus was more infectious and more deadly.

This is one solution- the portable hospital. We could also and easily convert one hospital in each region for the Covid patients only, too. But, our healthcare system is not designed nor capable of flexible thinking. In the past the Minister of Health would simply issue an order to the top bureaucrats ending the conversation with "or it's your job". Now, they negotiate with the "stakeholders"- unions, municipalities, health networks, etc. In the end, no one wants to go out on a limb and step out of line. Our Premier keeps deferring to his advisers, so does our mayor. Cuomo did the same thing in the NY State and Trump in Washington; and where are they now? And where are we? All our "leaders" are doing is covering their asses and angling for an election message. Meanwhile, our seniors keep dying just as in the spring and we're killing our country.

How did thread go from a convo about a kid being arrested to covid talk?
Some would argue if it wasn’t for ridiculous lockdowns this kid would still be alive, you know lockdowns because of covid.

Were those stores closed when the police started harassing the kid. Was he trespassing? Was he breaking the law? Did he just buy something and was eating/drinking it in the parking lot?

Would he still be alive if the cops didn’t harass him dispute his condition?

why weren’t cops sensitive here and had crises prevention officers on scene?

So you still ask how this is related? I shake my head that you fail to see how it is. This kid should still be alive and you should be frustrated that this happened and be asking questions why and how to prevent it.

Every life is precious. You fail to see that this will still happen and people are on the edge. You fail so see that cops need sensitivity training you fail to see who is responsible for this and why. You fail to see that the ones responsible for this keep making the same mistakes over and over again when there is a solution.

“On Saturday, January 2, 2021, at approximately 9:40 p.m., the Toronto Police Service received calls from the public reporting a large gathering of individuals in the area of Midland Avenue and Finch Avenue East. Officers arrived to find a gathering of approximately 50 people and cars gathered in contravention of the Reopening Ontario Act. Some members of this large gathering refused to disperse and did not comply with the officers’ orders, resulting in one person being criminally charged with Obstruct Police.

“During the arrest, the person stated they were in crisis. Officers responded immediately by taking the person to the hospital. The person was assessed by a doctor and released by the hospital to his family. The person had no further contact with the Toronto Police. Since then, we have learned the person died at their home in Durham Region on Monday, January 4, 2021. Given this is a non-criminal matter which took place outside the jurisdiction of Toronto, we will not comment. The service offers condolences to the family.”

In other words, has he simply walked away instead of refusing to provide his ID and calling the Cop a "fucking pig" they probably would've let him go. Note the Cops didn't arrest anyone else. Most Cops can't be bother with all the paperwork for arresting some punk if they don't have to. If the kid was polite, I bet they would've let him go.

They also did the right thing by taking him to the hospital to have him assessed, after which he was released to his family. He then commits suicide 2 days later in his home and you blame the Police?

Would this kid have killed him self if this incident didn’t happen?

Just because a kid in distress says they are fine doesn’t mean they are. Now his face is plastered everywhere and what kind of an impact does this have on his life, but he says he is fine just to be released to go home.

I am not blaming the cops as the ROOT cause. I am frustrated with the cops. Look at the video and see for yourself how they treated him. How did that impact his psyche? The cops wouldn’t be there if the lockdowns were not in place. The lockdowns wouldn’t be in place if the experts didn’t recommend. I am blaming these lockdowns and saying that if we are not careful more of these incidents will happen. People especially these kids are in distress. If we ignore this and think just because they say they are okay and not recognize the sensitivity of the situation we could be facing with many more similar incidents especially during new and upcoming curfew the Ford government is considered.

Why don’t we have experts monitoring this situation closely to ensure more kids and more people in distress don’t take their lives.

There is only so much you can push people. How many people with mental issues are struggling in silence ATM because of these lockdowns?

Would this kid have killed himself if he just did what the Cops instructed the group to do? Scatter and go home? Instead he took it upon himself to piss off the Cops. Not a wise move.

Just because a kid in distress says they are fine doesn’t mean they are. Now his face is plastered everywhere and what kind of an impact does this have on his life, but he says he is fine just to be released to go home.
Well, I guess that one's on the mental health professionals at the hospital.

The cops wouldn’t be there if the lockdowns were not in place.
But they are...

Why don’t we have experts monitoring this situation closely to ensure more kids and more people in distress don’t take their lives.
Short of having a mental health professional babysit every person after they're released from hospital, there's simply no way of ensuring people don't take their own life.

The government legally imposed the lockdown. Weather you agree with it or not is your issue.
Police have an obligation to hold up the law. Weather you agree with it or not.

The hospital released this kid to his family after an assessment and determining he was fine.
What triggered his suicide is a question you should ask the parents since he was at home for 2 days since his interaction with the police. Sounds like the family failed..

I had a friend with mental health issues who got roughed up by police and he committed suicide about 10 days later. That is why the "Defund the Police" folks say that certain cases should be handled by mental health professionals instead of aggressive, violent , old school cops.
So picture this. If the unarmed MHP goes to an incident and it gets out of hand violent etc then what?
