Let's get started.

Riccardo Montolivo broke his leg against the Rep of I (not the sort of team they should have played a friendly against in the first place). While unfortunate for the AC Milan captain the reaction to it is interesting - the English are more upset about it than the Italians are.

England has a good chance of advancing onto the knockout phase. Uruguay are not the team they were when they won the Coppa America. They are like an Oreo cookie without the filling - great defense and attack no midfield.

Here
You beat me to the punch!

I was waiting until today to begin this thread and call it:

Soccer, sex and samba!

[Yeah... a bit of a takeoff - aka plagiarism - on Al Jazeera's lead story a few days ago, but WTF!]

Let the fun begin!

It sure does, Sepp Blather is a confirmed billionaire, with Russia and Qatar to follow.

South Africa put a great show hopefully Brazil can do the same. After that will Russia initiate pogroms against gays prior to the event. Vlad Putinisimmo will become more dangerous with the passing of time.

Been watching Anthony Bourdain in Salvador, a place in Brazil that many have suggested a visit to get a good taste of BRAZIL, old and new.

Time for some CACHACA & Lime.

Salvador was once the capital of Brazil's plantation state, the city is 80% black. The city has recently grown wealthy from Brazil's prosperous biofuel industry, the region produces 1/3 of the country's sugar cane. To all tourists going there, don't flaunt your wealth.

Transit strike, mass demonstrations, tear gas, and riot police. Four times the money spent on security than in South Africa. It should be a great time.

My favourites:

1. Argentina
2. Brazil
3. Germany
4. Spain
5. France

And from the players dropped (Tevez, Defoe....etc) and players injured (Kroos, Strootman, Falcao...etc) you could probably field a world class team and possibly even win the world cup

Lots of local, Brazilian, resistance. no sense of local flavour.

Give Waka Waka anytime. Just try and keep still.

Saturday is shaping up to be a money bonanza for local bars, reservation policies are being implemented. Due to its reputation no Italians will be at Scallywagg's, but if Kevin Kerr is still in charge at The Main Event, there will be a 1 in 4 mix.

Prandelli will go with a 3-2-4-1 formation with Candreva and Insigne (I hope) playing wide with Balotelli (more than likely) as the lone striker.

Transfer news: De Laurentiis has rejected Arsenal's 20 million pound bid for Insigne.

Pressure is mounting on Sepp Blather to step down as President of Fifa, the World Cup's three biggest sponsors (Adidas, Coke and Visa) are pushing for his resignation. And why not, the awarding of the 2018WC to Imperial Russia smelled bad enough, the awarding of the 2022 event to Qatar is insane. Nor should Michel Platini be given a chance at the top job. He fixed the 2016 Euro bud in France's favour, at a time when Italy needed the event to rebuild its infrastructure. And he benefited greatly from the Qatar bid and also greased the wheels to their ownership of PSG.

The Brazilians haven’t lost a competitive match on home soil since 1975.
Yes, that’s a real statistic, they haven’t lost in the country of Brazil in 34 years.

Good luck Croatia, you're gonna need it
