WOW!

Where did the Dutch come from? Their very physical approach overwhelmed and frustrated the finesse of the Spaniards... if they keep on playing like that we'll see them at the final!

It did not look like the Spanish National Team we have been accustomed to over the past many years...

I'm starting to hate some of the spaniard players, like Sergio Ramos, Costa, Alonzo they're dirty and divers..I hate Pepe too that plays for RM. I like the rest of them.
But that was a great spanking !!! I think teams are cracking the type of game the Spaniards play...
I don't think even the penalty was warranted.

Italy v England was a good game and could have gone the other way- England had some great chances

The hangover is bearable this morning.

I'm calling this, quote me on it:

England will qualify for the Round of 16. Their talent pool and tactics is vastly improved.

Daniel Sturridge must have a nasty Charly Horse courtesy of Shrek (Chiellini).

Pretty even. Rooney missed a great chance. England has a lot of very talented young players so likely they will improve over next few years. They will be looking forward to return of Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Costa Rica convincingly over Uruguay? Who'd thunk it!?

I have no dog in this fight so I always cheer for the underdog... so far, lots to cheer about! :biggrin1:

Looking forward to tomorrow's match between Germany and Portugal...

It wasn't as even as it looked.

When you play a more attacking game you will give up counters. Italy cut down the angles forcing the English to make difficult shots, only once was Sirigu left flat footed. By the 75th, Italy's midfield superiority was taking it's toll, the final score could have been 4-1. Still it's a vast improvement and Uruguay is weak in midfield (Suarez wouldn't have made a difference) so they should win that match.

Yes Oxalde- Chamberlain will be great, but we haven't seen Insigne yet. And the Azzurri have El Shaaraway and Girrardi awaiting their turn.

And by the time USA2022 (it will happen) you get this:

Being a huge fan of Dutch football I was as surprised as anyone at the final result. Spain controlled most of the first half but the second half was total domination by Dutch. There's no doubting they have the firepower with Van Persie, Robben, Sneijder and co. What I was concerned with was the relative inexperience in the backfield. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by their play - Vlaar was fantastic.

Most experts were picking Spain and Chile to come out of group B which angered me because the Dutch were so dominant in qualifying. I guess their collapse in Euro 2012 played into this. Still I thought they were being underrated and it looks like I was right. If they play like they did in game 1 I'm sure a trip to the QF at least is in the works.

Spain's keeper made some massive blunders... Not taking anything away from the Dutch.

I'm guessing the Italians will be throwing fewer bananas - that's was an awesome header!

LMAO!

Mario Balotelli can be an assino legere at times, but he will not risk the disapproval of Andrea Pirlo. The laconic genius was the last to congratulate him and you could see from Balo's expression that it meant a lot. Andrea has never said more than ten words to Balo, he presses his buttons with looks. Hopefully getting married after the WC, will give Balo the stability he needs.

Reading his life story isn't pleasant.

And now we come to France, I didn't even try to handicap them. They have a tradition of rebellion and also a tradition of harsh reprisal against the instigator. It will be a miracle if Samir Narsi ever get to wear Les Blu ever again. They will either make the final or merde themselves.

Caught the first half of the Portugal-Germany game and couldn't continue. I wonder if the Serbian(?) Referee has any illusions of officiating in the next round. I hope not

Portugal is asking too much from CR7. He's a game breaker not a team captain, the two don't mix. Look at Spain without Puyol. And France has been shut out of major events since Deschamps retired. Zidane was too impulsive to lead in 2006.

Tomas Muller is wonderful but Mario Goetze is the dark horse. If he can raise to the occasion Germany may become the first European team to take the WC in South America.
