Bosh's Tough Season Gets Worse

TORONTO -- Chris Bosh says he loves his baby daughter and will let the courts deal with the issue of how he supports the child financially.

The Toronto Raptors star has been cast in U.S. court papers as a deadbeat dad who broke up with his girlfriend when she was seven months pregnant.

The allegations are contained in court documents filed in Maryland on behalf of Allison Mathis, who describes herself as Bosh's former live-in girlfriend. She is seeking child support and sole custody of an infant she claims is Bosh's daughter.

According to Maryland Circuit Court records, a hearing is scheduled for Thursday, April 2nd in Montgomery, Maryland. The lawsuit was originally filed on November 26, 2008.

Bosh wouldn't comment specifically about the lawsuit following practice Tuesday.

"All I can say is I'm going to take care of my responsibilities like I've been doing in the past and in the future and keep respect for everyone," he told reporters.

The documents claim that with Mathis seven months pregnant, Bosh, who is making US$14.4 million this season, stopped supporting her financially and attempted to have her removed from their home.

The allegations made in the complaint have not been proven in court.

One news report that I read indicated that Bosh had questioned whether he was the father of the child. They had a paternity test, and it was determined that he was 99.9% the father of the child. What I don't get is why he would hold out paying any support.

The other news report I saw indicated that he has only seen the child twice in the last 4 months or something like that.

He does not seem like the guy that would do something like this.

I know that guyroch. I have been to many places and have seen many things. I'm not sure of statistics of how many black men leave and don't give a shit about what they've done and it's probably quite a number but other races have done the same thing as well. Hell, I know some of them and I will not call them friends but I know a few white guys as well that have done the exact same thing.

After they had a child, the relationship went sour. I started to see less and less of the guy, until he disappeared completely. When I asked about the father, the mother tells me that she has not seen or heard of him in months. A few months later, he moved out of Toronto, and has not seen or contacted his kid in two years.

I know the mother, and she is decent. I still cannot understand why he refuses to see his kid.

It is based on the fact that he has had ZERO problems while he has been in Toronto. It is based on the fact that he has done excellent work within the community and for charities.

The whole thing does seem weird. Most of what you are reading from news reports comes from the lawsuit that his ex-girlfriend has filed. I guess you have never heard of ex-gf's or wives making false statements in order to increase their support payments?

It is based on the fact that he has had ZERO problems while he has been in Toronto. It is based on the fact that he has done excellent work within the community and for charities.

Bosh's public image is indeed very good. However sometimes the public persona of a person does not always reveal what someone is capable of when the cameras are not turned on. Who knows what's going on here. His ex-gf might be a complete psycho who got knocked up to sink her claws into his cash. Or Bosh might be a deadbeat Dad who was a complete dick and walked away from his pregnant girlfriend leaving her penniless and out on the street. Until any of these allegations have been proven in court I guess it's just wait and see. Either way if that kid is Bosh's, then he's got to step up and do what's right for the kid.
