Is it me or do some/most agree that having 3 starting rookies will eventually takes its toll and they will falter soon. Lytsch is out for 2 weeks. Romero has done wonders but soon hitters will adapt second time around. Richmond will give 5 runs a game. Purcey is getting banged around. Tallet is sucking the big one, League doesn't seem focused and then there is Ryan.

Our hitters will continue to hit but not on this pace, man we are screwed. I hope I am wrong but we need major league pitchers in our starting rotation

Yup. Romeros' line was pretty shit-awful last night. Should've shut those Twins out like a REAL major leaguer would've done.

What say Jays go down to Wallmart tomorrow first thing and pick up 7 or 8 #1 starters at a discount.

So basically you are saying that after 10 games you are agreeing with the 99% of the professional analysts who picked Jays for 4th or 5th in the division.

Not much of a revelation.

Travis Snider is going to do pretty well. I agree that the pitchers will have a rougher go of it in the 2nd half of the season. But, I have always wondered about the theory that new pitchers will bet banged around later in the season. If hitters are able to figure out how to hit young pitchers, Roy Halladay has been around for 10 years, you would think that someone should hvae him figured out by now???

I dont' think our hitters will keep the pace they are on right now either.

I was not expecting the Jays to do very well this year, but I think they might surprise people.

I am reminded of the Young Expos of 2000.

Started the season 31-23, and were tied for the third best record in MLB. Started to slip.... then injuries to a team with no depth.

Ended the season 65-97... on a 34-72 run!!!

Now the Jays will do better then that, but way too early to even predict something modest like .500.

You may be right. However the Jays might have some relief later in the season with the return of Litsch in May/June, McGowan mid-summer and Marcum in August. Best case scenarios of course but right now we should be enjoying the moment.

Just maybe as others have commented on other sites the Jays will prove to be this year's version of Tampa Bay.

Who is saying that?

First off, those are totally different teams. With TBay, we knew they were coming. They had built the finest minor league system in all of MLB and would soon rise to the top. It obviously happened quicker than expected, but there were signs they weren't far off.

This edition of the Jays are not expected to contend or to even be close. 4th or 5th place is where most had them pegged and their minor league system at this point is no where near where Tampa was in 2008.

Their quick start is something to take notice of for sure, but check the calendar, then sit back and enjoy the ride. They may end up on top, but there is a long way to go and there will be three other very good teams to fight off.

(before shack asks, no - Baltimore will NOT be one of the three ;) ).

Thanks for thinking of me.

I am so much happier that the Jays are off to a good start. The longer they stay in contention and their games are meaningful the more enjoyable it is watching their games. So different than when they get off to a poor start and by the end of June they have no realistic chance and the games are meaningless.

I for one will enjoy it as long as I can but understand that at some point reality will most likely kick in.

Another benefit is that it gives the youngsters more opportunity to play in important games. How many times have we seen them fold at crucial times because they have no experience playing under pressure. They always finish strong in September when there's no pressure on them.

On a separate note .333 is pretty good for a batter but not so good for a team.

Blueline, please don't begrudge me this opportunity to gloat because I'm sure my opportunities will be fleeting.

That's what I've seen the last couple of days on some fan postings - not serious analysts. ;)

I can imagine if you are a TB, Yankees or Sox fan they won't be enjoying their starts to this season. Yankees start last year if I remember correctly was also slow. Of course it's way to early to judge where these teams will end up. It will be interesting to see how many fans attend the next home game series.

Funny thing about the farm systems, last year various analysts were saying how bad the Jays were in that respect. Now it seems they have loads of pitching and batting talent either already through or soon to come through.

About time the Jays had something to cheer about.

Now if Alex Rios and Vernon Wells (most of his hits are little bloopers), the two money guys, can start hitting the ball, we'd be even better. The other guys are carrying the team right now, and I guess that's alright if the big guys wake up a little later in the season.

As to the pitching, you have to give them credit for what they're doing right now, but yes, the starting rotation is a little thin, and if we get any more injuries, say goodnight!

For now they are playing very well, have been competitive against some good teams, and they are in first place! I especially like the fact that the Red Sox are in last place! Take a snapshot of these current standings, as they are a pretty sight that won't last for long! :p
